🔬 #OneDayOneGenome We are excited to share the complete genome sequence of Paenibacillus peoriae IBSD35! 🌱 This incredible endophytic bacterium was isolated from the traditional medicinal plant Millettia pachycarpa in Ukhrul, Manipur, India, by the dedicated team at BRIC-Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) What makes Paenibacillus peoriae IBSD35 so intriguing? It produces Peoraerin IBSD35, an antimicrobial peptide (AMP) that shows broad-spectrum activity against several significant pathogens, including: 🦠 Staphylococcus aureus 🦠 Escherichia coli 🦠 Candida albicans 🦠 Klebsiella pneumonia 🦠 Salmonella typhimurium Not only is Peoraerin IBSD35 highly effective, but it also demonstrates remarkable resilience. It maintains its antimicrobial properties even after long-term storage, exposure to high temperatures, and resistance to degradative enzymes, making it a promising candidate in the battle against antimicrobial resistance (AMR). This innovative research brings new hope in tackling AMR and underscores the potential of naturally occurring AMPs for public health applications. A big thank you to @departmentofbiotechnology and @drjitendrasingh for their support in this vital work. Let’s keep moving toward a healthier, AMR-free future! 🌍 #AntibioticResistance #WAAW #Genomics #ResearchAndDevelopment #PublicHealth #OneHealth Rajesh Gokhale BRIC-National Institute of Biomedical Genomics

Anusandhan National Research Foundation (#ANRF) has announced the launch of the Partnerships for Accelerated Innovation and Research (PAIR) Program. The Stakeholders’ Meeting for the PAIR Program will be held on November 29, 2024 at the Leaders Lounge of Bharat Mandapam. The program, launched following the first Governing Board Meeting of ANRF chaired by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, as the Member Secretary, adopts a hub-and-spoke model. It pairs universities where research is at a nascent stage with top-tier institutions in a mentorship mode to drive impactful, high-quality research. By leveraging the expertise of established institutions, the PAIR Program aims to stimulate innovation in emerging institutions, promote internationally competitive research, and foster collaborative networks. The initiative is designed to enhance research quality by providing access to advanced infrastructure and global best practices. #ResearchInsights! In a #DBT funded project, #Scientists from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda explored the anticancer efficacy of #Garcinia #anomala, plant endemic to #NER region. Ovarian cancer represents a significant form of gynecological malignancy. Despite notable advancements in therapeutic treatments, the average duration of clinical remission remains around two years, with a five-year survival rate of only 45%. Long-term side effects are often observed in cancer survivors. Scientists explored Garcinia spp. that has emerged as a #plant of interest due to its #potential #anticancer #properties. However, the endemic species Garcinia anomala, found in North-East India, had yet to be investigated for its anticancer efficacy. The study found that its methanol extract exhibited superior antioxidant activity compared to other extracts against ovarian cancer in vitro.
