#ResearchInsights! In a #DBT funded project, #Scientists from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda explored the anticancer efficacy of #Garcinia #anomala, plant endemic to #NER region. Ovarian cancer represents a significant form of gynecological malignancy. Despite notable advancements in therapeutic treatments, the average duration of clinical remission remains around two years, with a five-year survival rate of only 45%. Long-term side effects are often observed in cancer survivors. Scientists explored Garcinia spp. that has emerged as a #plant of interest due to its #potential #anticancer #properties. However, the endemic species Garcinia anomala, found in North-East India, had yet to be investigated for its anticancer efficacy. The study found that its methanol extract exhibited superior antioxidant activity compared to other extracts against ovarian cancer in vitro.
