Did you know that the coastal wetlands in the Delaware Estuary are losing about one acre per day? It's estimated that by 2100, more than a quarter of the total wetlands could be lost due to sea level rise. But researchers at the University of Delaware are working on a project called DEEDS to install living shorelines made of natural materials like oysters and plants along the Delaware Bay, which could not only help stabilize the shoreline and reduce nutrient pollution but also address the declining oyster populations that have occurred over the last hundred years. #coastalresilience #environmentalprotection

Can you believe it? The EPA has been striking pollution from clean air tallies in over 70 counties, leaving more than 21 million Americans in the dark about the true health risks they are facing. This little-known rule called the "exceptional events rule" allows regulators to forgive pollution caused by natural or uncontrollable events, like wildfires. Not only does this put people's health at risk, but it also weakens the Clean Air Act and makes it harder to control local polluters. It's a serious problem, especially with the climate crisis looming over us. We need to hold our local regulators accountable and demand better protection for our air. #physicalsecurity #securityissues

New research funded by the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research suggests a possible link between air pollution and Parkinson's disease. Researchers from Barrow Neurological Institute found that living in regions with higher levels of air pollution results in a 56% higher risk of developing Parkinson’s disease when compared to those in regions with the lowest levels. The study confirms previous findings showing that fine particulate pollution causes inflammation in the brain, providing a potential mechanism for the development of Parkinson's. #airpollution #environmentalprotection
