Did you know that the coastal wetlands in the Delaware Estuary are losing about one acre per day? It's estimated that by 2100, more than a quarter of the total wetlands could be lost due to sea level rise. But researchers at the University of Delaware are working on a project called DEEDS to install living shorelines made of natural materials like oysters and plants along the Delaware Bay, which could not only help stabilize the shoreline and reduce nutrient pollution but also address the declining oyster populations that have occurred over the last hundred years. #coastalresilience #environmentalprotection
