The City of Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering is working to retrofit municipally owned buildings to achieve carbon-neutral operations by 2045. Glumac, part of the Tetra Tech High Performance Buildings Group, is working with the City to create a leading-edge, 12-year building decarbonization work plan for city-owned municipal facilities. What happens when you put a bunch of offshore wind experts on a boat? (No, this is not the opening to a joke.) Tetra Tech offshore wind leaders from Australia, the United Kingdom, and United States have been meeting this week to discuss industry trends, innovation, and collaboration opportunities to bring the best of our services to our clients around the world. They got out of the meeting room and into the field for some inspiration on the water—a site visit to the Vineyard Wind 1 offshore wind project under construction in Massachusetts. Tetra Tech provides protected species monitoring and mitigation support during construction and developed the oil spill response plan for the project. Some of the team had not seen an offshore wind project of this magnitude before. Nature-based solutions (NbS) offer sustainable and cost-effective approaches to address climate change challenges in agriculture and food security. 💡 Gender equality can drive innovation and improve business performance, especially in Kenya’s renewable energy sector. USAID's Engendering Industries program enhances gender equality in both the public and private sectors through a comprehensive approach that includes training, best practices, and support from dedicated change management coaches. The program has successfully helped nearly 13,000 women get hired or promoted, with 70% of partner companies promoting women at equal or higher rates than men. 📈 In Kenya, Engendering Industries partners with Kenya Electricity Generation Company (KenGen Kenya), to improve gender equality and achieve its goal of doubling its renewable energy capacity by 2030. By adopting inclusive workplace policies, KenGen has seen tangible results, increasing the proportion of women on staff from 23% to 27% between 2020 and 2023. Women, like Kaarinah Luvango, have been promoted to leadership roles, and Luvango’s leadership at the Ngong Wind Farm led to innovations that improved the farm's operations and reduced costs. Less than half of Malawi’s youth participate in secondary education due to lack of physical school space. Sustainably expanding access to education is critical to improve socioeconomic opportunity in Malawi. Tetra Tech is integrating #NetZero energy and water principles to help design more than 100 secondary schools across the country. These sustainability features are especially important for those in remote areas without municipal water or power.
