If you choose to add two-step verification as an additional layer of security, you'll be asked to select an option for the second type of verification method you prefer.
Authenticator App: This method uses an app-based authentication code. You’ll need a phone compatible with an authenticator app, such as Microsoft Authenticator.
Phone Number (SMS): You’ll need a phone capable of receiving SMS (text) messages. The phone number you enter to turn on two-step verification won’t appear on your LinkedIn profile. Note: Carrier charges may apply.
To turn two-step verification on or off:

Click the
Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage. -
Select Settings & Privacy from the dropdown.

Click Sign in & security on the left rail and click Two-step verification.

Click Turn on or Turn off to change the status of two-step verification.
- You may be asked to enter your password for security reasons. You may also be asked to enter a verification code sent to your email address or to approve the change through your LinkedIn app.
- When turning two-step verification on, enter the verification code sent to your phone.

Click Set up to enable two-step verification, then choose the preferred verification method from the dropdown, and click Continue.
To turn two-step verification on or off:

Tap your profile picture and tap Settings.

Tap Sign in & security and tap Two-step verification.

Tap the toggle to turn two-step verification on or off.
- You may be asked to enter your password for security reasons. o You may also be asked to enter a verification code sent to your email address or to approve the change through your LinkedIn app.
- When turning two-step verification on, enter the verification code sent to your phone or primary email address.

Tap Set up to enable two-step verification, then choose the preferred verification method from the dropdown, and tap Continue.

Note: If two-step verification is turned off, LinkedIn will also forget all previously recognized devices and you'll only need your username and password to sign in. Learn more about what to do if you’ve lost access to your phone or authenticator app.

Install an authenticator app such as Microsoft Authenticator.

Click the profile icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage and select Settings & Privacy.

Under the Sign in & security, click Two-step Verification to enable or change the two-step verification method.

Click Set up to enable two-step verification and select Authenticator App as the method.

Open your authenticator app and tap Add Account or click the
Add icon in the top right corner. If this is your first time setting up an account on the app, you might be prompted to set up an account. -
Select Other and use “LinkedIn” as the account name.

Enter the secret key provided by LinkedIn into the authenticator app.

Enter the 6-digit verification code generated by your authenticator app to verify your device.
Now your device is ready for two-step authentication. Whenever you log in from a new device, open your Authenticator app and enter the code when prompted.

Click the profile icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage and select Settings & Privacy.

Under the Sign in & security, click Two-step Verification to enable or change the two-step verification method.

Click Set up and select Phone Number (SMS) as a preferred verification method for two-step verification, then click Continue.

Enter your phone number and LinkedIn password, then click Send code to receive a 6-digit code sent to your phone.

Once you receive the code sent to your phone, enter it into the box on the device you're using to sign in and click Verify.
If you are logged into LinkedIn on a mobile device and have push notifications enabled, you will receive a push notification on your mobile device with a sign-in security prompt instead of one of the 2FA methods. Learn more about sign-in security prompt.
