The bi-weekly Wise Walking Warriors program at our Arverne East development in the Rockaways in Queens was recently featured by NY1 for making an inspirational impact on the community! As part of the program, seniors walk along the boardwalk and do calisthenics to stay active and improve their overall health. They also learn about healthy eating and cooking via nutrition classes overseen by program leader Elizabeth Madison, RDN, CDN in our Arverne East Multipurpose Building. Thanks to the City Parks Foundation for this amazing free program for seniors. The Wise Walking Warriors program site was launched in 2022 with support from L+M and funding from local elected officials State Assembly Member Khaleel Anderson and Council Member Selvena Brooks-Powers. The Multipurpose Building is part of the overall Arverne East development, which will transform a 116-acre vacant oceanfront site on the Rockaway Peninsula into the first net-zero community in New York City. It will include 1,650 housing units – 80% of which will be affordable.
