In December 2021, the residents of NYCHA’s Fulton and Elliott-Chelsea Houses selected Essence Development and Related Companies to be their Permanent Affordability Commitment Together (PACT) partners. This week, in a critical step forward, the NYCHA Board formally adopted the master development agreement, signaling the next phase of work. While NYCHA will continue to own and manage the existing FEC buildings, this agreement serves as a roadmap for the future and will help NYCHA, Essence and Related begin implementation of the Bridge Plan, bringing critical repairs, new resources and quality of life improvements to residents as they await construction of their new homes. The agreement also memorializes key principles that protect residents: · All existing NYCHA apartments will be replaced with new, high-amenity permanently affordable homes. · The vast majority (94%) of households will remain in their existing apartments while NYCHA replacement buildings are constructed. · And, all resident rights will be preserved through NYCHA’s PACT program. Related Companies has been deeply committed for decades to expanding affordable housing in New York City, and in particular, in West Chelsea; so, this is an important moment for our company. But much more important than that, this is a critical step toward providing additional resources to the residents of FEC, and eventually toward building them the safe and clean new homes they deserve. They have already waited too long. As has been the case since the outset, resident voices will be central to the planning and design of each campus, and there are more steps ahead in the redevelopment process. But this is true public-private partnership, and I want to thank our partners for getting us to this point. To the residents of FEC, our partners at NYCHA, our partners at Essence, led by my friend Jamar Adams, as well the elected officials at all levels (city, state and federal) who came together and collaborated with us, we are grateful. I hope you will read more about it in this press release: https://lnkd.in/evEcM3cP or on this website: https://lnkd.in/e3FStDvK
