Improving the health of African Americans, by serving as a megaphone for trusted information.
About us
Founded more than a decade ago, the African-American Wellness Project (AAWP) was formed to respond to inequities in the health care delivery system and is committed to informing minorities about how to take charge of the health care system in order to get the best health care possible. AAWP is a “good prescription” for the health of Black Americans. At AAWP, we believe that health disparities will continue to exist if we don’t take action. To improve the health of the African-American community by serving as a megaphone for trusted information that enables and encourages African Americans to better navigate the healthcare system, advocate for themselves, and receive improved care, regardless of insurance or circumstances. With a resource rich website, the ability to directly engage with us via social media, and the weekly Black Doctors Speak Podcast, we aim to educate, inspire, and advocate for the African American community. Hosted by Dr. Michael LeNoir, a past president of the National Medical Association, The Black Doctors Speak Podcast will highlight the healthcare issues that disproportionately affect the African American community and those of other minority communities at a higher prevalence and severity, while also providing special guest commentary, and action steps to help us heal.
