"Transformative research like this is vital to make new breakthroughs that could have major implications for health around the world." Wellcome's Katrina Gold reflects on the Human Cell Atlas ⤵️
The Human Cell Atlas produced a landmark collection of papers yesterday, marking a major milestone for the project. Here's a short summary of why this is so exciting and why we've supported the effort at Wellcome, alongside many other funders and partners.

These new papers from Human Cell Atlas are a major milestone for the project. Researchers now have the foundation to start building the first draft of a universal Atlas, which could be likened to a guidebook for a limb, organ, or even the whole body. When complete, it could transform the ways we diagnose, monitor and treat diseases. We’re proud to be among the funders of the Human Cell Atlas. This project, which has built a vibrant global community to work openly and in partnership, represents discovery science at its best: https://lnkd.in/eCNeb7-Y

Modern medicine, public health and world economies: all are under threat from the growing burden of antimicrobial resistance. This century has seen greater political interest in AMR and increased efforts to monitor, understand and treat drug-resistant infections. But, while notable progress has been made on the issue, more needs to be done to turn evidence from research findings into policy and action. Read our explainer to learn more about the world’s response to AMR ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/ezqKNaiv #WorldAMRAwarenessWeek #WAAW2024

Yesterday marked Health Day at #COP29 – a pivotal moment to spotlight the impacts of climate change on our health. Why should climate policy focus on health? We're facing increasing health threats due to climate change, with heatwaves and floods breaking records each year. Yet the current global response is inadequate compared to the scale of the crisis. Every delay to reduce emissions means increasing health risks. Without a solid process to establish indicators for health and related sectors, we risk failing to track our progress in safeguarding populations from these hazards. Every dollar not invested in loss and damage means communities who have experienced the worst health impacts have no form of support. We must work together to address environmental concerns and create a healthier, more resilient future for all.

Each year, antimicrobial resistance is associated with millions of deaths. It’s one of our greatest global health challenges. But gaps in the data and AMR surveillance mean it can be difficult to understand the true scale of the threat. Patients and infections are missing from the global picture. Watch our new explainer video, featuring Professor Paul Turner and Dr Andrew Kambugu, to understand why – and what needs to happen next ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/erzqFidY #WAAW2024

200 world leaders and 40,000 delegates have come together to coordinate global climate action for the year ahead at #COP29. "And where's health? Everywhere. There is no decision here in Baku which does not have a bearing on human health." Arthy Hartwell, Policy Lead at Wellcome, weighs in on the first week of negotiations ⤵️
