Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE)

The 18th National Frontiers of Engineering Symposium was organized by Indian National Academy of Engineering, Anusandhan National Research Foundation and National Institute of Technology Warangal during November 16-17, 2024 under the aegis of ANRF (SERB) – INAE conclave on Atmanirbhar Technologies- Engineering Secured Future. This flagship event of INAE was held at NIT Warangal campus and was attended by young researchers across various academic institutions, R&D laboratories and industries as speakers and participants. In addition, National Competition on Innovation in Manufacturing Practices (IMP 2024) was also organized NIT Warangal on November 17, 2024 to provide a platform for engineering students and startups to showcase innovations in manufacturing sector. There were technical sessions on four thematic areas in the symposium namely, Additive manufacturing and Automation, Smart Grid: Power Electronic Converters, Control and Protection, Green Hydrogen and Storage Technologies and Quantum Computing, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Around seventy-five faculty and researchers from various engineering institutions had participated in the two-day program. Twenty-eight posters and twenty-four ideas were presented during Innovation in manufacturing practices were presented in event. Eighteen plenary and keynote talks were delivered the talk on the above thematic areas.

Dr S Somanath, Chairman of ISRO and a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), has been honored with the prestigious World Space Award by the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) for the remarkable achievements of Chandrayaan-3! Shri Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus, Tata Industries Ltd, Mumbai; former Chairman, Tata Sons and an esteemed Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) passed away on October 9, 2024. He was doyen of Indian Industry, a distinguished Fellow of INAE since 1992 and conferred the INAE Lifetime Contribution Award in Engineering in the year 2008 for his outstanding contributions to the growth of the Indian Industry and for being a visionary business leader, par excellence. He was also inducted as a Member of the National Academy of Engineering, USA in recognition of his outstanding contributions to industrial development in India and across the world. Shri Tata will be missed not only by the industry, corporate sector and engineering community but by persons from all walks of life who were touched by his grace, eminence and philanthropy. In his demise, the country and the engineering fraternity have lost one of the greatest icons and inspiration for excellence. INAE Expands its Outreach: Opportunity for Membership for Engineering Professionals INAE was established in 1987 as a Society under the Societies Registration Act 1860 and is an Autonomous Professional Body partly supported through grant-in-aid by the Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India since 1995. It comprises of India’s most distinguished engineers, engineer-scientists and technologists drawn from industry, academia, R&D organizations and strategic sectors covering the entire spectrum of engineering disciplines. INAE is now widening its outreach by expanding its activities to engage with a larger cross section of engineers, technologists, and academicians and has instituted Individual Membership to bring a wider cross section of engineers under the umbrella of the Academy. This year’s theme centers on "Additive Manufacturing for Defence Applications" and "Defence Manufacturing Technologies". The event features a special message from Hon'ble Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, who commends INAE and DRDO for organizing the Conclave, emphasizing its role in advancing the mission of Viksit Bharat 2024. The celebration began with a Welcome Address by Shri U Raja Babu DG-MSS, followed by Presidential Address from Prof Indranil Manna, President INAE. Dr Samir V. Kamat, Secretary DDR&D and Chairman of DRDO, served as the Guest of Honor for the inaugural session.
