A few days ahead of the Fifth Review Conference of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (APMBC) in Siem Reap, Cambodia, the International Campaign to Ban Landmines launched the Landmine Monitor report. And the message is clear. In 2023, landmines continued to devastate civilians’ lives, with: 👉 84% of casualties being non-combatants. 👉 37% of these victims were children. 👉 Vulnerable groups, including internal displaced people, nomads, and workers in conflict zones, were at the highest risk. We call for urgent action to adhere to the Mine Ban Treaty and strengthen mine action efforts. The report is a poignant reminder of the devastating human cost of landmines and the importance of collective action to eliminate this threat for good. Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/eMRBVQ_R

As the COP29 is closing in, we hope for a more green and more sustainable future. Many displacement affected areas depend on agriculture for their livelihoods. Protecting these environments is therefore key to securing and upholding living conditions and to preventing further displacement. Danish Refugee Council does this by creating sustainable solutions that: 👉 Build climate resilience and community self-reliance of through sustainable and climate sensitive approaches 👉 Protect natural resources and restore degraded environments 👉 Mitigate the adverse environmental effects of our activities 👉 Acknowledge and aim to reduce DRC’s own climate footprint We will continue to develop and implement many more sustainable initiatives. And we are always looking for new innovative and scalable solutions! If you want to engage in a partnership with an organization that continuously ranks as one of the best NGOs in the world – and you truly want to move the green-needle, please don’t hesitate to reach out. www.DRC.NGO/GoGreen

Today marks a significant milestone for the Danish Refugee Council as we sign our strategic partnership with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency through the signing of the Global Partnership Agreement, building on a 50-year-long collaboration. This agreement deepens our shared commitment to addressing the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges, from emergency aid to long-term peacebuilding. As the first international NGO to sign such an agreement with UNHCR, we are reaffirming our dedication to community-centered solutions, protection, and localization. Each box represents a vital step in restoring dignity, offering a lifeline of essential items such as food, hygiene supplies, and personal care products to help families in Lebanon meet their basic needs. Nearly two months of escalating hostilities have meant nearly two months of displacement for people in Lebanon. With each passing day, the suffering deepens, and the impact on vulnerable communities grows more severe. Families are forced to live in schools, in makeshift homes, or—if nothing else is available—on the streets. Since the beginning of the crisis, DRC has been distributing hot meals, blankets, mattresses, emergency cash, and a range of protection services. Now, with the support of the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (EU in Emergencies), we are also delivering hygiene kits and ready-to-eat food parcels. Humanitarian aid can provide immediate relief but is not enough. The root causes of the conflict must be addressed now.
