  • “We knew that for us to see success, we have to involve the entire community in the venture.” In Limika Village, Uganda, a community came together to create a brighter future for their kids💛📚 With no school nearby, parents, community leaders and teachers joined forces to build the Limika Home Learning Center, giving 120 young learners aged 3-5, a safe and inspiring place to grow. The parents, many of whom are farmers, are selling their crops to help fund the school, as well as providing meals using their produce. Through the Kulea Watoto project funded by Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, the IRC and local organization LABE Uganda, we are supporting communities' to realize their vision and nurture the next generation’s future. Happy #WorldChildren’sDay!

  • The situation in Northern Gaza is now beyond the crisis point. The Famine Review Committee (FRC) is warning that famine is likely imminent, if not already underway, in parts of northern Gaza. This marks a sharp and alarming deterioration since last month’s IPC report that projected a tripling in the number of people facing catastrophic food insecurity in the coming months. The escalating crisis is primarily driven by the obstruction of humanitarian aid. We urge immediate lifting of restrictions on aid into and within Gaza. The Government of Israel must fulfill its obligations to ensure that people across Gaza can access food, medical supplies and other basic necessities needed for the survival of the population. Lives are now hanging in the balance.

  • In places prone to extreme weather, having a chance to prepare can make all the difference. As a farmer in a flood-prone region of northern Nigeria, Faiza is one of many people experiencing the effects of the climate crisis first-hand. By investing in weather warning systems and sharing information and cash with those in high-risk areas, the IRC and Google.org have been helping people to plan ahead before extreme weather hits. As world leaders gather for #COP29, we’re calling for more support for people on the frontlines of the climate crisis to adapt and prepare.

  • What does home mean to you? For 19-year-old Angie, "home" took on a whole new meaning when she was forced to flee Ukraine in April 2022. Now, she’s rebuilding her life in Greece with her mother and sister, finding strength and hope every day. Angie shares her journey in this powerful video, produced during a 5-day workshop for IRC clients in Athens. Hosted by ReFOCUS Media Labs, participants received hands-on training in digital media and storytelling, arming them with valuable skills and newfound confidence, applicable both in their careers and everyday lives. Watch Angie’s story and discover what "home" can mean in the face of adversity 💛

  • The conflict in Lebanon has forced over a million people to flee their homes, with many having been displaced multiple times. The IRC is providing emergency support to those affected together with local partners like Remedy, which is delivering primary health care in Akkar. Listen as our Lebanon Country Director Juan Gabriel Wells describes the situation.

  • Seeking asylum is a human right—but it’s by no means easy. Read on to learn about one family’s journey north to search for safety > Michel, Edison and Neisbeth are among the millions of people forced to flee their homes because of conflict, violence and persecution globally every year. And just like for many other forcibly displaced people around the world, their search for safety is almost as dangerous as the situation they fled. With an unprecedented number of forcibly displaced people in the world, it’s more important than ever that those seeking safety and a better life be welcomed with dignity and respect. Join us in affirming your support and comment ‘#WelcomeRefugees’ down below.
