🧠 Raising Awareness about Huntington's Disease! 🧠 TIGS in collaboration with Huntington's Disease Society of India is launching the Huntington’s Disease (HD) awareness campaign with posters curated under the expert guidance of Dr. Sanjeev Jain and Dr. Meera Purushottam from National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), India. These initiatives aim to create awareness about Huntington’s among clinicians, healthcare practitioners, and the general public. ✨ The clinician-focused poster provides valuable insights for early diagnosis and management strategies, helping medical professionals offer better care to patients. The posters were designed to align with the most recent research and therapeutic advancements in the field. ✨ The storyboard takes a different approach—highlighting lived experiences of those affected by HD, making the complex science behind the disease more relatable and easier to understand. This interactive and visual tool is designed to spark conversations and break the silence around HD. Both posters were featured at the recently held NIMHANS Mental Health Santhe, a vibrant event bringing together healthcare professionals, patients, caregivers, and the public to foster dialogue around mental health and neurological disorders. We are excited to continue building bridges between research, patient care, and public understanding. 🌍👩⚕️👨👩👦 Check out our podcast on Huntington's Disease here: https://lnkd.in/gyYQPsHs Rakesh Mishra Saveetha Ph.D. Dr. Akshay das. k Esha Srivastava #HuntingtonsDisease #Neurology #MentalHealthAwareness #Healthcare #MentalHealthSanthe #PatientAdvocacy #PublicHealth #GeneticDisorders #Clinicians #REDRESS #Communityengagement

For the first time, a drug-free, intensive lifestyle intervention has been proven to significantly improve cognition and function in patients with early-stage Alzheimer’s and cognitive impairment. ⠀ The best part? Lifestyle modification is accessible to everyone, regardless of genetics! ⠀ Renowned physician Dr. Dean Ornish recently published a groundbreaking randomized controlled trial involving 51 patients in Alzheimer's Research & Therapy. ⠀ 🧠 The study focused on intensive lifestyle changes to slow the progression of mild cognitive impairment and early Alzheimer’s disease (AD). [1] ⠀ The 5 Key Lifestyle Factors 🥗Diet 💊Supplements 🏋️♂️Exercise 🧘♀️Stress management 🤝Support ⠀ Over the course of 20 weeks, the study went to great lengths, providing three meals and two snacks a day for both patients and their spouses. ⠀ Additionally, patients participated in sessions three times a week, each lasting four hours: one hour of exercise, one hour of meditation, one hour in a support group, and one hour attending a lecture. ⠀ The results were remarkable! ⠀ 📈 After 20 weeks, 71% of those in the intervention group showed halted or reversed progression of their disease. ⠀ In contrast, 68% of the control group, who did not receive the intervention, saw their condition worsen. ⠀ 👩⚕️Dr. Ornish and his team are now following these patients for another 20 weeks and plan to publish the 40-week findings later this year. While it won’t be a randomized trial at that point (as all patients will receive the intervention), the upcoming results are highly anticipated! ⠀ Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development in Alzheimer’s research. ⠀ #BeWellAssociates #happyvalley #Alzheimers #brainhealth #dementia ⠀ Sources: 1 Ornish, D., Madison, C., Kivipelto, M. et al. https://lnkd.in/ek3jWV3P

Are human brains getting larger? Are larger brains more resistant to dementia later in life? This is the recent JAMA article that uses the longitudinal health tracking study for Framingham (Massachusetts) participants over the course of decades, starting in 1949. Originally intended to monitor the progression of heart disease in a specified population over a generation, it has now also produces other health related observations and associations within a defined geographic. population. It was found that brain size in babies of participants had markedly increased by several percent between people born between 1970's and 1930's. This general increase of brain size appeared to be associated with lowered incidence of dementia and stroke, suggesting protectective effects of brain volume reserves in older age? From JAMA "Question Are there secular [long term] differences in cranial and brain size? Findings This cross-sectional study found secular differences of larger cranial and brain volumes among individuals without dementia and history of stroke who were born during the decades spanning 1930 to 1970. Meaning Secular differences in early life environment are leading to greater brain development that may reduce the risk for late-life dementia." https://lnkd.in/ezXPKTsy For general review from Medscape : https://lnkd.in/ekMdFr8h Disclaimer - views expressed here are of the Author only

"Neurodivergent children are twice as likely to experience chronic disabling fatigue in adolescence" New research highlights a significant link between neurodivergence and chronic fatigue. The study found that increased inflammation in childhood, often resulting from heightened stress levels, may be a contributing factor. This supports previous findings that suggest chronic fatigue can be rooted in inflammatory processes. Great Review.... AD can be treated with cholinesterase inhibitors, an N-methyl-d-aspartate antagonist, or β-amyloid immunomodulator medications, with the last modestly slowing cognitive and functional decline in people with MCI or mild dementia due to AD. Ongoing clinical trials will help to elucidate the long-term clinical efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness of these emerging treatments. Psychotropic medications have minimal evidence of efficacy for treating BPSD and are associated with notably increased risks of falls and cognitive decline. Ongoing and future research will undoubtedly provide new insights into prevention and treatment of dementia.
