📝 TIGS and ICAR - IIRR ink MoU! #Climatechange presents a significant threat to crop yields, and malnutrition remains a serious issue in India. To address some of these challenges, TIGS and ICAR-IIRR have partnered to create rice varieties which are climate-resilient that can thrive in changing environmental conditions, while also improving its nutritional value. The two organizations will also work together to advance rice technologies for societal benefit. Indian Institute of Rice Research (ICAR-IIRR) is a premier institute with a mission of developing technologies to enhance rice productivity, resource and input use efficiency, and profitability of rice cultivation without adversely affecting the environment. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Dr. Rakesh Mishra, Director of TIGS, and R. M. Sundaram (Raman Sundaram), Director of ICAR-IIRR. World Anaemia Awareness Day One Health - stands for the health of the soil, environment, plants, animals, people, and the planet Earth. It’s one and indivisible. If the health of soil goes down, everything else goes down with it – Dr. Rattan Lal (2020 World Food Prize Laureate). WHO estimates that 40% of children 6–59 months of age, 37% of pregnant women, and 30% of women 15–49 years of age worldwide are anaemic. If the soil does not have #micronutrients such as iron, the food produced from such soils will also be deficient in #vitamins and #minerals that are essential for a healthy body. Improving soil health can be a strategy in our Anaemia Mukt Bharat. #24Mantra organic farming methods are aimed to improve the micronutrient availability through appropriate systems. Organic farming improves soil properties slowly over a period of time. Go organic for better health. #AnaemiaMuktBharat #Rattanlal #OSUEnvironment #PMO Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) Rajashekar Reddy Seelam (Raj Seelam) Balasubramanian N Raghuveer Reddy Sudireddy

After months of meticulous research, my research paper on "Assessment of Agricultural Sustainability through Millets in India" was published in The Arthniti 2023-24 (ISSN 2277-1344) I co-authored this research paper with Namita Devadiga, Sharing a few striking insights that we came across: 1. Agriculture is a root externality for many socio-political disputes in India. One such example is the Kaveri water dispute, which arose due to the high water demands of rice cultivation in the regions near the Kaveri river. However, our research revealed a potential solution – millets like Jowar and Bajra. These crops require exponentially less water, offering a sustainable alternative to ease river water disputes caused by agricultural needs. 💧 2. During the green revolution in India, the focus was primarily on boosting productivity and revenue through rice and wheat cultivation. While it was successful in yielding massive outputs and export value from agriculture, they overshadowed the cultivation of millets during that period🌾 3. The declaration of 2023 as the year of the Millet has been a game-changer, not just for the Indian government but also for governments worldwide. The emphasis on incentivizing millet cultivation through policy changes is a significant supply-side boost. Additionally, raising awareness about the health and nutritional benefits of millets over rice and wheat can help bridge the demand gap, leading to a resurgence in millet consumption. 📈 Linking the research paper along. #sustainableagriculture #FoodSecurity #MilletRevolution #Supergrains #millets #yearofmillets

The #sugarcane industry significantly impacts India's rural economy, engaging over 50 million farmers and around half a million mill workers. As the second largest agro-based industry, it plays a pivotal role in the agricultural sector. India holds the prestigious position of being the world's leading producer and user of sugar, as well as the second-largest exporter. The production has been on the rise, with an increase observed in recent times. The sector, however, faces challenges like long harvest durations, high investment, labor costs, and difficulties in export due to high production costs. Despite these, the industry has potential growth avenues through by-products like #ethanol, contributing to green energy initiatives and enhancing farmer incomes through crop diversification. As sugarcane remains integral to India's agricultural landscape, there is a continuous need for innovations and government support to sustain and grow this vital sector. #Agriculture #SustainableFarming #FieldVisits #InnovateToCultivate #SoilTesting #SoilHealth #SoilScience #SoilRegeneration #SoilManagement #SoilCarbonSequestration #SoilQuality #SoilAnalysis #SoilFertility #AgricultureSoil #SoilNutrition #SoilBiology #SoilEcosystem #SoilDegradation #SoilConservation #SoilMicrobiology #SoilCarbonManagement #SoilOrganicMatter #SoilQualityAssessment Ekosight Soil Doctor ICAR- Indian Council of Agricultural Research Pusa Krishi, ICAR- IARI

In India, most of the farmers acquires less land and the cost of investment in sugarcane crop has increased and it mostly take one year to grow properly and along with it the yield of sugarcane has also decreased and diseases like red-rot and smut have also come out which is why very less yield has been produced. I had also planted coj85 variety last year but did not get any benefit from it. Farmers are facing a lot of problems while selling sugarcane and they are slowly running away from it. #Agriculture #SustainableFarming #FieldVisits #InnovateToCultivate #Soil #SoilHealth #SoilScience #SoilRegeneration #SoilManagement #SoilCarbonSequestration #SoilQuality #SoilAnalysis #SoilFertility #Agriculture #SoilNutrition #SoilBiology #SoilEcosystem #SoilDegradation #SoilConservation #SoilMicrobiology #SoilCarbonManagement #SoilOrganicMatter #SoilQuality
