Social Alpha is on a mission to drive economic growth, social justice and climate action through the power of entrepreneurship and market-creating innovations.

Ratan N Tata (also known as RNT) was a visionary leader whose unwavering belief in the power of #innovation, #entrepreneurship, and #empathy laid the foundation of Social Alpha. For those unfamiliar with our history, Mr Tata was the first to believe in our mission and strategy. His steadfast commitment to building a better world through science and technology inspired and guided us all. Mr Tata wholeheartedly believed in the potential of innovation to tackle the world’s most complex social and environmental challenges. His faith in Social Alpha’s mission and encouragement have been crucial to our success. His guidance has shaped our journey and will continue to influence us in all that we do. RNT was much more than a benefactor to Social Alpha—he was a mentor, a friend, and a constant source of strength. His humility, generosity, and unwavering belief in the power of innovation touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege to know him. Since RNT's passing on October 9th, much has been written in tribute to his remarkable life. In recognition of his immense contributions and lifelong dedication to innovation, Social Alpha is proud to announce the establishment of the annual RNT Award. While we are still working out the details, this annual award will honour and celebrate scientist-entrepreneurs working to solve the most pressing issues facing people and the planet. It will focus on healthcare, livelihoods, and climate change. We hope this award will carry forward his legacy. To begin with, we have set aside Rs 1 Cr / Year for this award, making it the largest in India among all the existing awards. We look forward to more individuals and institutions collaborating and dedicating their funds to enhance the size and impact of this award. We are currently working on the design, and the call for 2025 awards will likely be launched on RNT's birthday on 28th December 2024. As we grieve his passing, we also celebrate his extraordinary life and the profound legacy he has left behind. The RNT Awards will serve as a testament to his vision and enduring belief in the power of science and technology to transform lives. Social Alpha Rest in peace, Mr Tata. Your legacy of kindness, leadership, and commitment to a better world will continue to inspire and guide us as we carry your vision forward.

Words + action mean much more. A fitting tribute to RNT’s legacy. Innovation is facilitated by Science but it also promotes Science. A good balance is needed. Therefore, the reducing space for high quality basic science must also be a worry. Best wishes.
