Before I continue, I know very well that having close relationships with big donors who support your school is important. It's one of the many ways executive directors secure funding. Schools often need a whole other budget for needs that go beyond just existing and staying afloat. What about extracurricular activities? Tutoring for students who are behind in their studies? What if the funding that you have can't be used for that? The beauty of working with CauseMatch isn't just about raising more money for your school. We are overjoyed to see that the children of Thundersley Primary School are enjoying their new IT equipment! Initially, pupils had to share their computers as the school didn’t have enough for a full class. Thanks to your generous donations, we were able to provide over 100 laptops to their IT suite. Thundersley’s students can now be online together, meaning that more can be accomplished in their lessons. The Primary School’s Deputy Headteacher, Steve Mackay, told us that in addition to their PCs, the children’s new touch-screen laptops offer all the resources needed to support their lessons compared to their old Chromebook’s. Here's the best advice I can give to fundraisers working in independent schools: Spend time in the teachers' lounge. 👩🏫 More than anyone else at your school, your teachers have a wealth of information on students, parents, grandparents, and everyone in the school community. I just had a conversation with a teacher who (without meaning to) gave me an innovative idea for a fundraising campaign to implement next academic year. 💡 This time spent with people from other areas of your school is essential for generating creative ideas! #teachers #education #independentschools #fundraising

Late to the game, but digesting Benevity's State of Corporate Giving report. A few key pieces stood out: 1. 😅 89% of corp leaders want to see direct impact, measurable outcomes of their philanthropy (and other key stats related to measurables, and impact) and yet 92% don't want to overburden charities with reporting. 𝐼 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑘 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑖𝑠 𝑎 𝑤𝑎𝑦 𝑤𝑒 𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑑 𝑚𝑒𝑒𝑡 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑚𝑖𝑑𝑑𝑙𝑒... 2. Education (22%) seems to be the most popular granting area (which was a surprise to me) with International Dev and Youth Development coming in last (no surprise on the international front). 3. 11.2% participation rate in giving which is 𝐔𝐏 from last year by 13%. 🤔 Overall this was relatively encouraging. (Maybe it was just the coffee this AM)

BBBSC provides mentoring networks for youth through one to one mentoring in the community program and the Sports Buddy Program, and through peer to peer mentoring within the school system. When thinking about a #FairEducation - we can't think of academic outcomes alone. Young people from disadvantaged backgrounds still don't earn the same as those from more affluent backgrounds - even when they get the same grades. A fair education will ensure that young people get the opportunity to develop the #EssentialSkills that they need to thrive This is where charities like Speakers Trust are so important

Those brownies at your local school fundraiser might be feeding more than hunger; they may also be feeding systemic inequity. School fundraisers help communities support local education, but new research shows they might actually increase gaps in educational opportunities. Schools in wealthier areas raise much more money, giving their students access to extra resources, while schools in less wealthy areas often can’t raise as much, so they miss out. For example, in 2017, the 10% of Ontario schools with the highest parental income levels raised 49 times what was raised by the 10% of schools with the lowest parental income levels!
