Excited to head back to D.C. to participate in the Fragility Forum - an important space to build new partnerships and demonstrate the potential for investments in frontier markets. One example is the pioneering work that IFC - International Finance Corporation has been leading, together with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency and others in northwest Kenya, as captured by Jumoke Jagun-Dokunmu Jumoke points to key lessons that we need to focus on to make progress in these markets: 1. More (transparent) market data 2. Look at the opportunities (not only challenges) of investing in entrepreneurship in refugee and host-communities as one marketplace 3. Build presence in the field and be open to new partners to help de-risk investments Mirek Dusek Peter Maurer Diego Hakspiel Lisa Satolli Jim R. Thomas Djurhuus James Purcell https://lnkd.in/eKE7uyxk

💡 Did you know that the Self-Reliance Index (SRI) is the first-ever global tool for measuring the progress of refugee households toward self-reliance? The SRI was developed through a three-year multi-stakeholder process that consolidated input from 25+ partners, including NGOs, UNHCR, researchers, funders, and government agencies. Now in its third iteration, the SRI continues to help build a global evidence base for enhancing refugee self-reliance opportunities and promote collaboration among service providers to ensure that the holistic needs of refugee households are addressed. Advocating for Investment in Refugee-Led Organizations. A Call to Action In today's interconnected world, investing in refugee-led organizations is not just an act of compassion; it's a strategic move towards sustainable development and global stability. Refugee-led organizations (RLOs) are uniquely positioned to understand and address the nuanced needs of their communities. These organizations bring firsthand experience and innovative solutions to the challenges faced by refugees, often operating in regions where larger institutions may encounter challenges. - Empowerment and agency: By supporting RLOs, refugees are empowered to take control of their future, fostering self-reliance and resilience. - Cultural and contextual insight: #Refugee possess deep cultural and contextual knowledge, enabling more effective and tailored interventions. - Cost-effective solutions: #RLOs often operate with lower overheads, ensuring that funds directly impact their projects. - Grassroots connection and impact: These organizations have strong grassroots connections, facilitating greater participation and cooperation within their communities. - Sustainable development: Long-term investment in RLOs contributes to sustainable community development and stability, reducing the likelihood of protracted displacement situations. Let's champion these remarkable organizations and advocate for policies and funding that recognize their critical role. Together, we can build a future where every #refugee has the opportunity to thrive. I could finally get my hands on this book. It touches on the fact that most migrations happen in a South-South context. However, more importance is given to South-North ones. You know, because of the narrative portrayed by the media. But if you check the data, you will find that countries like Turkey, Colombia, Uganda, and Pakistan host the most refugees globally. These are all Global South countries. Check it out! https://lnkd.in/dte6xpK6. #auc #cmrs #migration #GlobalSouth

On my impact investing radar: 🌱 Refugee Investment Network is unlocking refugee self-reliance by building the investment ecosystem for refugee-led and supporting ventures. 🤎 Impact potential: Today, more than 80 million people have been forcibly displaced worldwide. Humanitarian crises last average of 17 years. Humanitarian aid are simply not enough - not only is there funding gap, it is also missing the opportunity to empower. I remember first hand talking to talented and resilient refugees, waiting indefinitely to be actively bringing value to the community through entrepreneurship. 🌍 This is where RIN comes in to unlock the enormous untapped potential, bridging the gap between refugee investments and capital that spans asset classes and geographies, as well as return and impact expectations. 🌍 Check out their investment opportunity map: https://lnkd.in/dFmXwt7u #impactinvesting #renewablefinancing #refugeeinvestments #empowerment

We are excited to share that the HLA started a collaboration with Badania Stowarzyszenia Klon/Jawor to conduct a comprehensive study on NGOs aiding refugees in Poland. We expect to conclude the project in April 2024. The project's primary objectives include mapping organisations supporting refugees, gaining insights into their current state, needs, and challenges, as well as diagnosing the landscape in terms of capacity and sustainability.
