Merle Bombardieri is a 75-year-old therapist who coaches people about one of the biggest life decisions they'll make: whether they should have kids. She's also a beloved (and active) poster in r/Fencesitter, a community of 70K redditors who are facing that very decision. Each week, Bombardieri spends an average of five hours giving advice and responding to individual concerns. She views her participation in the community as a moral obligation: “Not everybody can buy a book. A lot of people can’t afford a coach or a therapist. And I really want the information to be out there.”
