I took a mini-poll last week on how to deliver great service. One of my respondents gave a helpful response which could be summarized thus: "Learn how people want to be served, and design a service blueprint to deliver this." The shape of service depends on the customers. They determine how they want the service to be and feel. It is often unhelpful to assume for them; ask how they want it. Perhaps they don't mind waiting 30 more minutes to pick up their medications in-house instead of travelling down to Medplus for it. You may think speed is the most essential aspect of your service, but perhaps your patients are more interested in safety. That will radically affect how you design your service process. Or you think because your facility is located in a low income nghbourhood, the best incentive to offer is lower prices. While that may be so, it is possible that your patients simply want more space in your reception area so they can come around for their appointment in the company of family members. So, remember that service is personal. Allow your patients or customers to tell you what it looks like for them. Ask them. #service #customerexperience #healthcare
