SVP & Global Head, Late Respiratory & Immunology at AstraZeneca. Transformational Leader, Innovator, Women in Science Advocate
Clinical research in Immunology is accelerating at pace. There is often a high unmet need in diseases such as Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus (CLE) and Idiopathic Inflammatory Myopathies (IIM), this clinical development can’t come soon enough. At AstraZeneca, we’re innovating to deliver targeted care options that tackle the underlying drivers of immune-mediated disease. Our ambition is to transform care for immune-mediated diseases by moving beyond symptom control to achieve disease modification, remission and, one day, cure. Despite clear evidence, chronic Lyme disease remains controversial. In our upcoming webinar on June 13th, Dr. Embers, an Associate Professor in the Division of Immunology and the Director of Vector-borne Disease Research at the Tulane National Primate Research Center, will discuss why Lyme persists and how her recent research may help to address it. More about the research: Dr. Embers and a team of researchers from Tulane University have found that a combination of antibiotics is more effective in treating Lyme disease than the commonly prescribed course of one single antibiotic. Their results could pave the way for improved Lyme disease treatments, particularly in persistent cases that have not responded to standard treatment with a single antibiotic. I’m incredibly proud of the work we’re doing at AstraZeneca to unlock the drivers of immune mediated diseases with high unmet need, such as cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE) and idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM). These complex conditions are challenging to diagnose and treat, leaving patients with limited care options. But with our growing presence in Immunology, we’re working to improve outcomes for people living with these conditions, by following the science that go beyond just symptom management. Learn more on how we’re advancing the science in immune mediated diseases: https://bit.ly/3ZAzClX.
