In a new editorial, NAS President Marcia McNutt stresses the apolitical nature of science and its vital role in providing objective evidence for policy decisions while avoiding prescriptive stances. Read her editorial in Science Magazine: https://ow.ly/mo9p50U7qt9

Case study research is an important way for Public Administration scholars to obtain a deepened understanding of a context specific phenomenon. I am thrilled to share with you that I and Nathi Zongozzi, PhD contributed a chapter to the Handbook of Case Study Research in the Social Sciences, edited by Peter Rule and Vaughn John and published by (www.e-elgar.com).Edward Elgar Publishing.

Peer review is essential to ensure science quality but traditional peer review at journals is not 100 % effective and lacks transparency. Have a read to our lastest paper which attempt to raise awareness on open preprint peer review: https://lnkd.in/ehx6_NR5

As Dr. Ann Heesters mentions, it was a great pleasure and honour to lead an American Journal of Bioethics commentary on equity, diversity, and inclusion within the bioethics profession. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to work and learn from my supervisor (Dr. Jennifer Bell) and colleagues (Dr. Claudia Barned) at UHN. We explore some of the implications of Leah Pierson et al.'s findings for the diversity of clinical ethicists in Canada. We argue that the goals of efforts to enhance the field's diversity should be rooted in equity rather in equality. To this end, we contend that public views about bioethical issues need not be completely aligned with the views of professional bioethicists. Finally, we explain how the facilitation approach (as per the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities Core Competencies) to clinical ethics consultations ought to alleviate concerns related to the discrepancy in views between the general public and clinical ethicists. 📣 New Open Access Publication 📣 Thrilled to share my latest paper, co-authored with Dirk De Bièvre and Peter Bursens, exploring a critical yet often overlooked dimension of political influence: interest groups' control over non-decisionmaking. While much has been studied about how interest groups push their policy priorities, we dive into their ability to keep their ‘nightmare’ issues off the table. Our paper tackles three major research design challenges: conceptualization, sampling, and measurement. With this research, we aim to push the boundaries of how we understand agenda-setting and open new pathways for examining interest group influence. The paper is open access, and you can read it here:

In a groundbreaking move towards transparency in research, the Journal of Trial & Error is championing the publication of negative and null findings. As Editor-in-chief Sarahanne Field advocates, it's time to shine a light on the less glamorous aspects of scientific inquiry. The article delves into the consequences of the file-drawer problem, where unpublished negative results contribute to publication bias, skewing the perception of scientific success. By sharing these overlooked outcomes, we can better reflect the scientific process and combat the ongoing reproducibility crisis. Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/dtdg8u59
