The Blood Bank of Delmarva (BBD) is announcing an emergency plea for blood donors to boost inventory following a nearly 20% drop in recent donations. They’re hopeful a blood emergency will raise awareness of the need for blood, encourage first-time and lapsed blood donors to act, and increase blood donations ahead of the holiday season. The holidays are traditionally a challenging time for blood donation, as family gatherings and holiday travel often lead to a decrease in donations. The early drop in donations this year is a particularly troubling trend, and BBD is calling on new and returning donors to make an immediate appointment to donate. We encourage you to donate blood or platelets at a community blood drive or donor center. To make an appointment, visit donate.bbd.org or call 1.888.8.BLOOD.8.
