Many of us have faced, are facing, or will face circumstances beyond our control. This applies at a global, regional, national, state, community, business, organizational, family, and personal level. It can be related to our economy, companies, jobs, health or that of those we care about, weather, politics and so much more. We have all experienced this, of this am sure. I am also sure we will all will continue to experience this. That is guaranteed. What is not guaranteed is how you/we will choose to respond. That is a choice, that only you/we can make. We can abdicate agency. Play the victim (captive). Claim we are powerless, a captive imprisoned by our minds. Allow the circumstances to dictate our lives, vs. countering with choice. We know that usually does not end well. OR We can take agency. Be the captain. Control what we can. Influence where we can. Adapt where we can neither control or influence. We shape our own outcomes. This leads to a far better result. Think about what would have happened if: If those we remember on this Veterans Day had chosen not to serve or not serve well. If Martin Luther King said, "Oh, forget about it. We cannot do anything." Sully Sullenberger (US Air 1549, Miracle on the Hudson), played the victim. Eugene Kranz (Apollo 13) said the crew was doomed, nothing we can do here. Ed Bastian (CEO of Delta) reacted to Covid the way other legacy airlines did. We all know stories of those who chose to act or to influence action and made a difference for our world, our nation, our communities, our companies, our families, and ourselves. We have the power to shape our own futures. They won't all be perfect. They can all be better because of the choices we make individually and collectively. In challenging times, be the captain! We need more captains. Our family and friends need captains. Our society needs captains to function and thrive. Our organizations need captains to face the challenges ahead. The world needs captains. Be the captain. Remember this, we always have a choice. #leadership #service #agency #VeteransDay #BeTheChange

Founder-CEO @ Pillars of Valor Coffee | Founder of Leaders Lead Podcast | Vetrepreneur | Proud Supporter of Fellow Veterans and the Veteran Community
Some times it takes a sign for people to stop, pause, read and really understand what’s going on with the message intended for them. This morning, I used our family daily white board to take an opportunity to share a message with the community. Pillars of Valor is so much more than just a coffee company. It’s about real conversations and connections. I recently spent a week giving out coffee samples to people who where wondering grocery stores who were in the hustle of getting to the next thing for the major holiday. I stood there with a tiny table, a few containers of freshly made coffee, and packages of freshly roasted coffee for sale. I greeted people with a smile and and said hi and kindly asked them if they would like to sample coffee. I batted a rough .275 of people saying yes to try samples. I was thrilled with that hit rate. The hits, where home runs of gold. Not because they purchased, because of the connection, because of the story. People need authentic connections and need someone to talk to. It’s never been more clear in my life. We did this over a cup of coffee as complete strangers in the middle of a grocery store. These interactions lead to some of the most beautiful conversations of lost loved ones, sons or daughters who just left for service, people who wanted to serve who couldn’t, neighbors of people who have served, and veterans who did serve. These conversations were raw, real, and packed with passion and need for connections. Each one of these conversations left me with a sense of purpose larger than what I started the day with. It reinforced me that the path I’m on, the mission and vision is right. People need people, people need and want to talk to others, they just need the intersection to be able to do so. That’s where Pillars of Valor comes, it creates a common purpose, to unite our communities and to bring us together, to lift each other up, and move forward as one as we support veterans. My ask, please like and share this. Help me grow this brand, help this brand become what it’s meant to be, a brand of unity, a movement. #veterans #military #together #community #leadership #movement #coffee #purpose #driven #veteran #usa #america

#WHAT #ARE #YOUR #THOUGHTS 💭 ⁉️ (comment 💬 and let me know) . 🇺🇸 Honoring Service Beyond the “Requirement”: A Call to Our Better Angels . Many people say they are patriotic, yet I’ve noticed that veteran-owned businesses, specifically VOSBs (Veteran-Owned Small Businesses) and SDVOSBs (Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses), are often only invited into project teams when it’s “required.” The reality is that honoring our veterans should not be a box to check—it should be a reflection of our core values and commitment to those who served, sacrificed, and, in some cases, returned home with combat injuries. . SDVOSB set-asides were created to recognize the sacrifices of military service members from all branches who risked their lives in times of war. And, more broadly, diversity set-asides honor a complex American history, giving space to disadvantaged and underrepresented groups who have faced systemic barriers. A truly inclusive society acknowledges these experiences and strives to uplift those affected—not only when mandated but because it’s the right thing to do. . I hope my colleagues will listen to their better angels, embracing these values in every project and partnership. Patriotism isn’t just about symbols and words; it’s about acting in support of those who have served and ensuring that the principles of equity and recognition are woven into our actions daily. . Let’s honor and uplift all those who have given so much, not because it’s “required” but because that’s what a good society does. 🇺🇸 . - Mujeeb Basha, P.E. American Veteran Engineering, PLLC

In a world of constant chaos, a little positivity goes a long way. Feeding my soul by feeding the souls of others.
Positivity Perks - Honoring Veterans How can you show gratitude to veterans in your life and community? This Is The Thing: To all who have served, we honor your courage and dedication. Veterans are the backbone of our nation's resilience, embodying the strength and commitment that protect our freedoms. Their willingness to put others before themselves reflects an extraordinary level of bravery and sacrifice. As we pause to remember and honor their contributions, let us also recognize the enduring impact of their service on our lives, our communities, and our future. Each veteran's story adds depth to our collective history, reminding us of the value of courage and unity. #HonorOurVeterans I find myself deeply moved by the sacrifices veterans have made. I've come to see that honoring their service goes beyond just a moment of appreciation; it's a call to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy daily and the hard-earned lessons that come with them. Expressing gratitude to veterans, whether through simple gestures or words of appreciation, is one way we can contribute to a culture of respect. To me, their dedication is a reminder of the strength we can all strive to embody in our own lives. #CourageAndDedication So, how can we continue to honor the courage of those who served? It's important to think about how we can incorporate their values of service and commitment into our own lives. By reflecting on their legacy and expressing our gratitude, we uphold their sacrifices and ensure that their contributions continue to inspire us all. #VeteransDay Stay positive, and have an amazing day! Today isn’t about our usual laughs or the daily grind. Veterans Day is a day to step back, remember, and honor those who made the boldest shift of all—the choice to serve, to protect, to sacrifice. We wear the poppy not just as a symbol, but as a promise that we remember and respect their courage. At Bold Shift, we’re all about pushing forward, challenging the norm. Today, let’s do that by asking ourselves: What more can we do for those who’ve given so much? Beyond the poppy, beyond the posts, how can we make a difference for veterans who continue to lead by example? This isn’t just a moment of remembrance; it’s a call to act. Let’s commit to creating inclusive workplaces, stronger support systems, and real opportunities for those who’ve served. Today, we set aside the routine to honor, to thank, and to step up. #VeteransDay #BoldShift #LestWeForget #PoppyOfRemembrance #HonorAndAction #SupportOurVeterans #RealChange #LeadershipInService

1.14 million. It's the population of Baltimore, MD and Albuquerque, NM combined. Taylor Swift sold that many copies of her album Midnights. It's the number of millionaires living in California. Also, according to the Veterans Administration, the estimate of the number of servicemembers lost in conflicts fought by the United States. On one hand, it is altogether fitting that we should dedicate a day to remember and honor those that made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country and our allies. On the other hand, the immensity of this number and the loss it encompasses is staggering. Tragic. For each servicemember counted, there are family members and friends, platoon-, ship-, and squadron-mates that are impacted by these losses. Often for the rest of their lives. Those impacts far outlive the length of time one may know the servicemember that didn't make it home. It is certainly true for me, and I know I am not alone in this amongst my colleagues. There is often a fusion of Memorial Day and Veteran's Day in people's minds. Simply put, it is never a bad time to thank a veteran for their service, but Memorial Day isn't for those of us that remain. There is also the tendency to focus on celebrating the start of summer instead of remembering the original reason for the holiday. This is not to say we shouldn't enjoy time with family and friends. Quite the opposite. There few better ways to honor a sacrifice than celebrating what it provides. Only a humble request to add something simple to your agenda. During this time off and all the benefits to mind, body and spirit that it hopefully gives to you, consider taking a moment or two to reflect, in whatever manner you choose, on the purpose for and significance of the Memorial Day holiday
