🚀 IIT Madras Research Park – The Vision of Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala I have had the privilege and honor of working with Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala for a few years now. The clarity of his vision for the Research Park ecosystem was incredible and communicated to all by the sheer force of his personality. The core principles of independence, financial self-sustenance, and visionary thinking define its existence. Ashok always thought about the National Interest and the long term. Witness the 10X projects currently running there – each of them poised to transform the country in its respective domain. The objective of industry-academia collaboration was central in the choice of industry resident partners, their two-way interaction with IITM, and in the (now huge) involvement of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras professors in the entrepreneurship process. The IIT Madras Incubator is also a massive success. The principles of lean funding (as opposed to fat funding in the outside world) and outstanding mentorship have been core to its over 80% success rate. Over half of the incubatees are not IIT Madras graduates, showcasing that talent exists everywhere; it's the grooming that is often lacking. After a most distinguished career, Professor Jhunjhunwala stepped down on 30th June from his executive role with IITMRP; I pray for his continued good health and his ongoing association with the IIT Madras Research Park ecosystem as a guide and mentor. #Innovation #Research #IITMadras #IndustryAcademiaCollaboration #VisionaryLeadership

Indian Institute of Technology, Madras is offering a comprehensive 4-month certificate course in 'Innovation and Entrepreneurship - A Multi-disciplinary Approach.' Developing a culture of entrepreneurship is a complex and multidimensional process.  (i) You need to develop the language and vocabulary. (ii) You need mental models for navigating the process and what to expect. (iii) You need some show-and-tell, for which the IIT Madras Research Park (IITMRP) is a great place. Pursuit of academic and research excellence demands a focused attention to not only the state of art but a vision for future and unconditional commitment to quality, relevance and innovation. Further, to grow taller in your chosen domain, you must carveout your pathways for R&D and Innovation, supported by funded research from the R&D organizations and industry. Your ability to think ahead of time and think out of box matters most for causing path breaking research and innovation. I picked up these traits from my days at University of Birmingham, UK where I saw great eminence emerging out of engagement in industry relevant research and innovations. I pursued this thrust on industrially relevant research and innovations at IIT Delhi during my 12 years of association to demonstrate world quality, industry relevant research outcome from institutions like IITs. This experience of nurturing a culture of research and innovation from UG levels upward helped me to shape DCE as a factory of innovation and an institution with high employability during my long association with DCE as it's Principal from December 1990 to July 2009. The thrust on world quality education and research became a major strategic headwind when we transformed an affiliated institution DCE into a fully empowered Technological University DTU in 2009. Great growth with quality and high employability was achieved at DTU, and the great tempo continues still after my superannuation 10 years ago. At Amity University Haryana, AUH too the advantage of visionary leadership of its founding father and global outlook made us rise to great eminence with world quality education, globally acclaimed research and innovations that are testimony to 110 higher end funded R&D projects, 263 patents, over 7000 research publications and H index of the university rising to 61 as of now. With a fully technology integrated university that AUH is, the march on pathways of excellence continues.
