Invitation from Prof. dr Bato Korać: There are a number of reasons one can say that the 21st century has given birth to a new scientific discipline - Redox Biology. And Redox Biology is also, like any other aspect of science and life, a perspective on things, with the cooperation of opposites in its basis. With a goal. Harmonized in health, out-of-balance in illness. Studying Redox biology: oxidants, antioxidants, redox active molecules and redox regulation is a multilayered endeavor to comprehend the complexity and uniqueness of this regulation. Understanding this complexity will allow for a greater understanding of biology and, life. This Conference is an attempt to get to know more deeply the core of Redox Biology, the core of life. With these warm thoughts, Belgrade is waiting to meet you in September 2024. Can’t wait! 🔬

Restoring Ukraine’s public scientific infrastructure is estimated to exceed $1.26 billion, as reported by UNESCO. At the recent "Rebuilding Scientific Ecosystem in Ukraine" UNESCO Symposium, Vivi Stavrou, ISC Senior Science Officer and Executive Secretary of the ISC Committee for Freedom and Responsibility in Science (CFRS), emphasized the importance of a global framework to protect science and scientists during crises. She highlighted the lack of such a framework, unlike those existing for education and culture, which could inform both preventive and emergency measures, as well as post-crisis rebuilding strategies for science - and underscored the shared responsibility of all actors in the science and research sector to prepare for crises, enhance sector resilience, and support affected scientists worldwide. I'm thrilled to share that our article, "Bio-Medical Discourse and Oriental Metanarratives on Pandemics in the Islamicate World from the Sixteenth to Nineteenth Centuries," has been published in the Humanities Journal and is now available online! This paper examines the writings of European travelers, chaplains, and resident doctors on pandemics in the Mediterranean regions during the 16th to 19th centuries. We explore how Muslim communities in Egypt, Turkey, Aleppo, and Mecca were often stereotyped based on their beliefs and practices during plague outbreaks. We argue that the travelers' writings fostered Western cultural hegemony over the Orient, driven by narratives of eschatology, conversion, and power structures. https://lnkd.in/dFVWnsQ7

In order to know our human species even better, it is necessary to investigate what our ancestors did before us and how everyday physical phenomena affected them. One of the interesting lectures at the Congress is the one about the use of bioreconstruction engineering in ancient lifestyles, diseases and environments, which will be given by Mario Novak, PhD from the Institute for Anthropological Research, Zagreb, Croatia.
