Radiology technologists play a crucial role in ensuring patient safety during surgical procedures. Their expertise in operating imaging equipment, positioning patients, and optimizing image quality is essential for obtaining precise diagnostic information. Ideally, radiology technologists should be present in every surgical case to provide their specialized skills and support. However, in practice, this is not always feasible due to staffing limitations, resource constraints, and the varying protocols of different healthcare facilities. This gap can lead to suboptimal imaging results and potential delays in diagnosis and treatment. It underscores the need for enhanced staffing policies and training to ensure that radiology technologists can be consistently involved in all relevant procedures. Louise Shalaby, Radiology Services Manager at Galway Clinic featured on Galway Bay FM to provide advice on how to prepare for a radiological procedure: “It is completely normal to feel a bit anxious about medical imaging, especially if it’s your first time. Here is my advice I would give to all my patients: 1. Ask questions – if you have any concerns, please ask the radiographer or the radiologist before the examination. They are always happy to help. 2. Know what to expect – Each test is slightly different. You will usually get information on this, or you can contact the clinic for further advice. 3. Use relaxation techniques - Some procedures such as MRI can be a concern to patients especially those with claustrophobia, so we do advise people use relaxation techniques, just to make sure you’re still and we get the best imaging out of it. 4. Bring a support person – While they are not allowed in the room at the time, it is always useful to have someone to just accompany you at a hospital appointment.” Listen back to the interview here: https://lnkd.in/esQiiyDF #BetterTogether #BlackrockHealth

Navigating Daily Challenges in Radiology: The Power of Teamwork and Communication In healthcare, attention to detail can make all the difference, especially in radiology. Recently, our MRI team showcased the importance of vigilance and clear communication. During a routine MRI safety screening, a technician identified an intracardiac loop monitor in a patient who had marked ‘no’ on all safety questionnaire items. Thanks to this quick action, the radiologist was informed and took the necessary steps to verify the implant’s safety and coordinates with the MR technician to tailor the sequences as per the manufacturer recommendations (conditional), ensuring a smooth and safe procedure for the patient. On the same day, the same technician discovered that an incomplete examination had been performed due to an incorrect CPT code selection by the referring physician. This situation highlights the critical role of direct communication between radiologists and technologists to ensure accurate and safe procedures. These examples emphasize the importance of fostering a culture of safety and open communication in our field. In a high-stakes environment, a few words of appreciation and recognition can turn a challenging workday around and drive us toward achieving bigger goals—even with financial constraints. Let’s continue to support each other, recognize the efforts of our teams, and strengthen communication to ensure the best patient care. #Healthcare #Radiology #MRISafety #Teamwork #StaffRecognition #PatientSafety #WorkplaceCommunication

🔍 Did you know that behind every clear diagnosis, there’s a Radiology Technologist ensuring precision and patient care? 🏥 ⩥ This is where we, as radiology technologists, come in to play this fundamentally important role within this entire diagnosis and treatment process. We are not just some kind of machine operator; we are that important link in a chain that continues the patient's journey more homeward-bound toward health. ⩥ We work closely with the radiologists, physicians, and nurses to make the imaging process as smooth, safe, and efficient as possible. Whether performing an X-ray, a CT scan, or an MRI, we ensure that the right images are taken with precision to support accurate diagnosis and effective treatment. ⩥ It is not only about having technical proficiency, though. We also support the patients' anxiety, especially when undergoing complex imaging studies. By explaining the steps properly and offering a reassuring presence, we make the time less stressful for the patients. ⩥ In every scan, there's more at work than just the technology to locate a professional dedicated to quality and patient care. This approach to teamwork makes healthcare truly patient-centered. #RadiologyTechnologist #HealthcareTeam #PatientCare #MedicalImaging #DiagnosticImaging #Radiology
