In the healthcare industry, women's presence is truly indispensable. Globally, they constitute 70% of health and social care workers and approximately 90% of nurses, delivering essential services to about 5 billion people, reports the World Health Organization (WHO). Women contribute a staggering US$ 3 trillion annually to global health, with half of this being unpaid care work.
Women's innate empathy, exceptional communication skills, and inclusive leadership styles make them well-suited candidates for care and healthcare roles. Their ability to emotionally connect with patients fosters trust and comfort, while their proficiency in communication ensures accurate and compassionate information delivery. Women leaders in healthcare foster collaboration, mentorship, and empowerment, thereby driving continuous improvement in healthcare delivery and outcomes.
Despite their invaluable contributions, according to the International Healthcare Federation (IHF), women are not adequately represented in leadership roles. Globally, it is estimated that only around 25% of leadership positions in health are held by women. In 2020, only 23% of national delegations to the World Health Assembly were headed by women, and fewer than 5% of Chief Executive Officers of Fortune 500 healthcare companies are female.
At Axios International, we take pride that 73% of our leadership roles are held by women, who guide, direct, and support teams across various countries and cultures, contributing significantly to our unified work culture. It is ingrained in our ethos to promote equity not only in access but also in the workplace, where diversity is not just encouraged but celebrated. We not only support women excelling in leadership positions but also recognize and appreciate why they succeed as leaders across different functions. As we celebrate Women’s Month this March, we want to reiterate our profound appreciation for our women leaders and the invaluable element of empathy they bring to their roles.
