This game is an outstanding testament to what brings people to games: a deep and meaningful story combined with real person communication and interaction. If you look at some of the most successful games over the past 3 to 4 years, the continued theme throughout them all is the ability to interact with our friends, strangers, partners, etc. in new and exciting ways (think of Fortnite being the most accessible battle royale and revolutionizing the genre, Among Us providing a new way to play with large groups of friends). In 2022, my wife and I played this game for the first time. We had been married for two years at that point, and had just gone through the hardest year of our marriage. While this game didn’t save it, it did help us learn how to communicate better with each other and work towards getting back to a better place in our relationship. What we find as we get older is that there is no cookie cutter model for communication. It’s not a “one size fits every relationship” sort of thing. Everyone communicates differently with everyone, and the best communicators are the ones that realize that sooner. This game, along with some of the most successful games of recent history, provides an opportunity for you to learn how to communicate more effectively with someone that you likely already have a relationship with. This is the perfect game for longtime friends, new partners, or anyone who just wants to get to know someone better. I cannot say enough good things about this game and I hope that studios make more like it. Do you have any niche examples of ways to communicate in your world? Call of Duty's next game will be open world! This is going to be the first title in their series that will be open word, and apparently there will even be different biomes within the map such as jungle and desert. What's really interesting however, is that apparently no studio is leading the development. Normally, we would expect infinity ward to be heading this up, but if it's not them that leaves us with multiple questions. Who pitched this concept? How will the game be being developed? So: - 343 Studios becomes Halo Studios - Becomes a UE5 shop, moving on from its own Slipcase tech - Lots of internal prototype projects, talk of a new dawn, a big reset - There were layoffs and times of reflection, but they’re hiring again - A cryptic bit at the end about changing path away from the kind of game that Infinite presented I get all bar the rebrand and the last one. Calling themselves “Halo Studios” to my ear kinda sounds like “We Will Never Make Anything Else Studios”, which is kind of a weird pigeonhole. Fans tend to like when studios are whimsical and clever and slightly distinct from the things they make. The comment about Infinite is also curious. Not that the next games should be open world in the same way, but Infinite kind of did the thing to really push Halo into new territory, and having played it twice, to me it’s the best of the series. I can’t help but feel they’re sort of saying “we’re going back”, but back to what? It’s just puzzling. My general take is it’s good to see some shooting-for-the-fences, but strategically this may also be a case of going back to the pump once too often. This strategy of centering rejuvenation through Halo has been used a lot by Xbox over the years, and risks sounding same-old-same-old. I suppose it comes down to whether the audience feels there’s more Haloing to do. I get the tech strategy, get the reflection period and the need to rejuvenate.
