Formula E Fact 🏎 "Attack Charge" Attack Charge, a new feature that debuted in Season 9, was originally scheduled to be used in a few races later in the season. However, the production of the fast chargers was delayed due to issues with the Gen3 car's new batteries, which caused delays. Consequently, the debut of Attack Charge was pushed back, and it will be used in a few races in Season 10, following criticism from the teams about switching to a new race format midway through the season. During Attack Charge races, teams will have to stop for a mandated thirty seconds to replenish the car's batteries. "Our cars must shred pounds!" cried principals, carbon fibre stakes banishing heavy paint. Engineers followed, crafting lithe black beasts to conquer the scales through sinister means. Yes, lap times fell as the poundage lifted. But absent vibrance, isn’t something lost? The stories, the nostalgia, joie de vivre? Herein lies Formula 1's inner battle - the tension between pure performance and heartfelt nostalgia. Aeroelasticity has recently become a major talking point in F1. So, as experts in aerodynamic testing equipment, we thought we’d explain what it is and why it’s so controversial. Aeroelasticity examines how flexible parts of a structure respond to air forces. Formula 1 teams design flexible body parts that subtly deform at high speeds to reduce drag. Recently, attention has shifted to McLaren’s rear wing, which appeared to flex slightly at high speeds and give the team a straight-line speed advantage. Racing has always been an integral part of human DNA, and F1 racing has been a testbed for various innovations that have become routine technology in today's cars. Since the first F1 championship began in 1950, innovations used by various teams, ranging from Turbocharging to KERS, have become mainstream features of modern cars. To achieve an average speed of 350 KM/Hour, F1 cars use specialized 'High Octane racing fuel' that burns on average 3.5 liters per KM. This fuel combustion can reach a temperature of 1200 degrees, making it important to monitor the post-race thermal integrity of F1 car components.
