Bharat on the path of accelerated ‘Green Growth’, an integrated #BioE3 (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment and Employment) Policy for “Fostering High-Performance Biomanufacturing” with an aim to make a green, clean, prosperous, and self-reliant Bharat. Pleased to share my views along with experts… Hailing the BioE3 policy as the Government's bold initiative to establish India as a global leader in biomanufacturing, Chakravarthi AVPS Advisor International Affairs, Federation of Asian Biotech Associations (FABA) and Chairman, Federation of Pharma Entrepreneurs (FOPE) AP & Telangana stressed upon factors that will give impetus to make this initiative a success. “While the policy lays out an ambitious and promising vision, its success will hinge on addressing several existing challenges. These include overcoming regulatory delays, ensuring infrastructure readiness, and bridging the skill gap within the biotech sector. Effective implementation of these measures will be crucial for the policy to achieve its full potential. If executed successfully, the BioE3 policy could significantly transform India’s bio-economy and propel the country to the forefront of global biotechnology and healthcare innovation, establishing it as a major player in these critical sectors”, he added. https://lnkd.in/eiwx7K39

The Interim Budget 2024 has also proposed a new scheme of bio-manufacturing and bio-foundry, which will promote green growth and bio-economy. Bio-RIDE scheme approved by Cabinet Indian Government is committed to achieving the vision of a $300 billion bioeconomy by 2030 and has been launching special policies for promoting Biotech entrepreneurship and Startup Ecosystem. After approving #BioE3 policy for Fostering High Performance Biomanufacturing, the Cabinet has approved #BioRIDE (Biotechnology Research Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development) scheme of Department of Biotechnology to promote bio-entrepreneurship and strengthen India’s position as a global leader in biomanufacturing. The initiative with a budget of Rs.9197 crore, aims to promote bioentrepreneurship, facilitate industry-academia collaboration ,encourage sustainable biomanufacturing, support researchers through extramural funding and develop human resources in Biotechnology sector by providing holistic training. A key feature of the Bio-RIDE scheme is its emphasis on creating synergies between academic institutions and industry to accelerate the commercialization of bio-based products and technologies. Biomanufacturing at scale is plagued with complex challenges and support from academia is needed to overcome technological roadblocks prevalent in industries. Facilitating Industry-Academia collaborations will bridge the vast gap between academic research and the industry needs. Proactive policies like #BioE3 and #BioRIDE provide institutional support for biomanufacturing businesses and contribute significantly towards realizing the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’.

Keeping in view the national priority of steering #Bharat on the path of accelerated ‘#Green #Growth’, an integrated BioE3 (Biotechnology for #Economy, #Environment and #Employment) Policy for “Fostering High-Performance #Biomanufacturing” is proposed for a green, clean, prosperous, and self-reliant Bharat. The Policy provides a framework to empower #Indian institutions, universities, #startups and industries to engage in transformative innovations by: • Intensifying research and innovation to address challenges such as mitigation of #climatechange and achieving de-carbonization • Boosting domestic biomanufacturing capability by enabling synergy between science, technology, engineering and manufacturing • Accelerating transition to biomanufacturing by promoting integrated use of #artificialintelligence (#AI) and digitalization with ‘omics’ and upstream biotechnology innovations • Setting up the facilities (Biomanufacturing Hubs/ Biofoundry/ Bio-AIs) for scaling-up and pre-commercial manufacturing, co-located with resources and infrastructure for fostering high- performance biomanufacturing • Nurturing cohort of highly skilled workforce Biomanufacturing approaches will build a more prosperous, equitable, and #sustainable development for current and future generations and achieve the target of #ViksitBharat by 2047.
