NYC will be an even wetter place in the future because of heavier rainfall and sea level rise. The Mayor asked New Yorkers to devise a pathway to meet our climate future by asking important questions, which were discussed at today’s seminar to share working group recommendations: * How do we make the conversation and outcomes about adapting to the reality of increasing rainfall and flooding in NYC as inclusive as possible? *How can we address existing and impending social, environmental and financial risks to city infrastructure from climate change and flooding? *Is it time to give back some land and housing to create room for increased flooding? What would equitable buyouts look? These recommendations come from New Yorkers, for New Yorkers:

What an amazing State of the City Presentation the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce put on yesterday! As a proud #Longmonster myself, it was really insightful to hear from Longmont's City Manager, Harold Dominguez, about the city’s ongoing and future initiatives. The focus on essential services—such as Water, Power, and Public Safety—combined with innovative transportation strategies like Vision Zero, which aims to eliminate traffic fatalities, showcases Longmont's commitment to creating a safer community. They also discussed exciting new housing projects, enhancements to parks and open spaces, and Longmont's ambitious bid to join the Making Cities Resilient 2030 initiative—a program through the UN, which would make us the first U.S. city to participate! This presentation offered a comprehensive overview of the city's operations and priorities, highlighting what truly makes Longmont the world’s greatest village to call home! Special thanks to Karen Stallard (Mastie), COO at the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce, and Carla Colin, President at The Latino Chamber of Commerce, for hosting such an informative Q&A afterward as well! #Longmont #CommunityEngagement #CityLeadership #UrbanPlanning #Sustainability #MakingCitiesResilient #VisionZero #PublicSafety #HousingDevelopment #LocalGovernment #LongmontStrong If you missed the presentation, here's a link to watch it: https://lnkd.in/g4RqYE52

Actions speak louder than words...
Now is the time for change ! Now is the time for our Elders, those with lived experience and our young people to be listened to ! Now is the time to close the gap ! Now is the time to stop doing what research and the many reports continue to clearly demonstrate what does not work in our justice system and continues to cost more and more money each year and listen to our Elders and Leaders who have the answers ! The Myalup initiative has been 8 years in the planning, from the time Western Australia was selected as the location for the first national prototype, the selection of the site by the Elders, through to the planning by the national codesign team of the site layout, buildings, facilities, and program design. This has involved 36 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people engaged in the justice system and 28 Aboriginal Elders and leaders from across Australia codesigning the whole initiative. The codesign principles have ensured that the program, the whole site layout and every building design is integrated into the environment where connection to the land and culture forms a foundational element of design for the healing process. The FISH Myalup Initiative is significant as it has been designed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to provide a place where First Nations people aged 16-35 can heal and receive holistic support to break intergenerational cycles of trauma, avoid (re)engagement in the justice system and contribute positively to society. Last week the FISH National Codesign Team came together again to continue to add more detail to the program and to the architectural drawings as we begin the process to move to Building Licences now the whole 11 hectare site has received full Development Approval by the State Government of Western Australia. Now is the time for change ! The question is will the State Government and the Australian Government listen to our Elders, Leaders, those with lived experience and our young people and be willing to walk shoulder to shoulder with them to bring healing and break the cycle of intergenerational engagement in the justice system for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through the full implementation of the FISH Myalup Karla Waangkiny Healing & Justice Initiative. Not only is this about justice and creating a safe and secure community where all people are valued and able to positively contribute to their community but it makes economic sense !
