Dawn was leaving work and walking to her car late one night recently when an elderly woman drove up and asked how to enter the main building at our North Campus. As she responded that every office in the building was closed, Dawn asked how she could provide assistance, and she noticed that the elderly woman was not well. So Dawn called an ambulance. She also used the woman’s cellphone to call her son and alert him to the situation. Once the ambulance arrived and stabilized the woman, Dawn safely parked the woman’s car. For her special efforts and care, Dawn has been named one of our Stars of the Month. She works in our Laboratory Services department. Kendra, who works on our Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit, has also been named a Star of the Month. She took her fingernail supplies up to a patient’s room on her day off to provide some treasured pampering. They chose a pretty color and made the patient’s hospital stay more fun. The patient loved the extra attention. If you’re interested in joining the stars on our team, visit AnMed.org/careers. #BetterStartsHere

Trauma-Informed Therapist | Clinical Supervisor | Group Private Practice Owner | Counselor Educator | Consultant, Trainer & Advocate for Culturally Responsive Mental Health Practices
Therapists, especially interns and pre-licensed professionals, I know you are often advised to develop a theoretical orientation or find your "niche" early in your career. Here's a friendly reminder for anyone who needs to hear it: It's okay not to settle on a single orientation or specialty. Your practice will evolve with you. It's okay to not adopt your professors' or clinical supervisors' style or orientation of practice. Recognizing therapies that don't align with your values isn't a failure—it's a way to refocus your energy on what truly excites and drives you. #mentalhealth #mentalhealththerapy #therapists #clinicalsupervision

Advancing Equity and Mental Wellbeing in Black Communities Globally through Research, Policy Advocacy, Direct Practice, and Workforce Development
I agree with this comment. Our job as senior clinicians is to help develop new therapists and support them in establishing their own identity. However, I do believe it is important for trainees to be able to develop, articulate, and practice from one or more theoretical orientations. Otherwise, many new therapists unconsciously slip into what I call, “rapid fire rhetorical questioning” trying to increase insight, or giving advice based on unconscious/concious value judgements made about the client. This is why I require my trainees to articulate what theoretical frame they are using to support the intervention even if they are using an integrative approach or an approach I’m not versed in. This is also important for liability issues, especially while therapists are provisionally licensed.

In our late 20s and early 30s, many of us are finding our footing—taking on new roles, moving to new places, and, for some, building families. It’s a season filled with growth and joy, but there's a tough reality that often goes unspoken: the quiet pauses, the career sacrifices, the dreams postponed. Recently, a friend of mine—a brilliant dentist—had to let go of a thriving practice she spent years building. Why? Because as she stepped into motherhood, finding the balance between her clinic hours and her new responsibilities felt nearly impossible. Another friend, an accomplished healthcare professional, relocated three times in two years to support her partner's career. Each time, she started from scratch, putting her own aspirations on hold. These stories—and I’m sure we all know too many of them—are reminders of a systemic challenge we face. Why is it still so difficult to maintain professional growth without compromising on our personal roles? Why is it always her career that slows down, changes, or stops altogether? We created Non-Clinical Dental Fellowship for dentists because of these very stories. We’re offering an alternative path—a way to thrive in your field, explore new roles, and gain the flexibility you deserve. This fellowship isn’t just about career transitions; it’s about creating an empowered community where your skills can shine, on your terms. If you or someone you know feels stuck between ambition and family, know that there are other options. We’re here to support you in navigating this path with purpose. Our first cohort launches soon, and spots are filling up. Reach out if this resonates with you. Let’s build a future where “pause” is no longer the only option. #RedefineCareers #NonClinicalDentistry #WomenInWorkforce #FellowshipProgram #EmpoweringJourneys
