If a baby is able to turn more simply within their mother or birthing parent, birth can become easier for everyone. The new AHN Purposeful Positioning program (informed by Spinning Babies®) helps ease the movement of a baby through the birth canal, which can reduce the need for C-sections. Hear more from Rachel on her experience with the program.
So the problem was I was nine centimeters
and I was not fully dilated to ten centimeters. So the doctor recommended
that we try a set of movements which would help us not have a C-section. And so I said
I was willing to do anything. The C-section, while necessary in
some situations can lead to really tough post-op recovery
with a lot more pain and a little bit of limited
mobility after. Especially if you already had the baby
at home to care for. The set of movements they had me
do was pretty simple. I could feel him and like instantly,
as soon as I put my leg there, I could feel him corkscrewing inside of me
and it was painful. I'm not going to lie, though it was a pain
that I was willing to endure, knowing
that it was going to help my labor. So the goal of purposeful positioning
is to position women in a way in labor where you're negotiating Essentially the
shape of your pelvis, where you're opening one end kind of closing the other end,
and vice versa to help the baby, based on where they are in labor, descend
through the birth canal, a little easier. When the doctor came back, she had checked and he was in perfect position
and I was ready to start pushing. And after the first contraction,
I remember she just continued to say, The
baby's coming really soon, and it was maybe five minutes later, 2
or 3 contractions and he was here.
