I will not comment any further on the armed #maritimesecurity team not opening fire to the USV. They had small chances into stopping it, but they utterly failed to respond to the #security incident. Two main concerns: 1. Many crew members were out on the #Bridge wing and then inside the Navigation Bridge. Why? Apparently they did not receive a proper #briefing and #training on the crossing of the #HRA. Unacceptable! Upon hearing the general alarm, the #crew must assemble at a safe Muster Station, Upper Deck inside the Accommodation superstructure. Only the designated bridge team should remain in its positions. 2. With the use of USV and anti-ship missiles by the #Houthis, the #Citadel can no longer be the Engine or the Steering Gear Room. A new Citadel must be constructed, and the ideal place is the aforementioned Muster Station. Food, water, medical supplies, and comms must be move on the Upper Deck inside the Accommodation block. If, and only if, possible the Engine Room (since it is targeted by the #Yemen #terrorist group) to remain unmanned or with the minimum possible crew, from 15N of the #RedSea, until the Point A (45E) of the #GulfofAden.

There has been a lot of criticism levelled at the armed security team (AST) seen in this video. Some of it may well be justified. The AST doesn’t seem to have an organised approach to what they are observing in the context of the environment in which they are operating. They don’t seem to be able to assess what threat the skiff represents and how to respond to it.   However, I use the word “seem” on purpose and cautiously here, because what we – sat in our offices ashore – are observing in the video is obviously open to interpretation. Clearly, lots of people have opinions on it, but it unless you were there how can you be so confident that: (a) You would have identified the threat correctly and in a timely manner? (b) You know how you would have reacted in the circumstances? (c) You know your decisions would have been better and resulted in a positive outcome? Some of the criticism seems to me to be a bit tenuous, fails to acknowledge it is expressed with the benefit of hindsight and is, perhaps, too arrogant in certain instances. In an effort to get some measure of professional reasonableness around this, I was wondering if anyone can offer an educated view on the following two questions: (1) Under what circumstances would it have been possible for an AST to disable the skiff at a safe range to the vessel? (2) What nature and calibre of weapons would have had to have been lawfully available to the AST to do so, assuming the engine was (a) an outboard engine or (b) an inboard engine? Or the hull was penetrable to the extent it would have been possible to hole it sufficiently to sink the skiff? Grateful for genuine feedback.

The most terrifying thing about "relapse" for me was how easy it is to believe that, by "relapsing", we have lost the war. Society tells us that if we are not able to stick to our decisions, we are weak. It's easy to believe that making mistakes makes us useless. But it is a mistake to believe that by losing the battle, we have lost the war. The truth is that each battle, or "relapse", or what we at This Naked Mind like to call "Data Points" makes us stronger as long as we remain committed to a better tomorrow. We must fight this battle with compassion and forgiveness. We must allow that lost battle to be a reminder of all the reasons we quit, rather than an unforgivable mistake. Remember: losing the battle does not mean you have lost the war. You will overcome this. Let each temptation, each battle bring you closer to winning the war. Learn from each Data Point, discovering your truth about alcohol and its role in your life. Alcohol does not define you. It does not give you worth. This is a journey, not a destination. It is a road no one can walk but you. And by committing to the journey, no matter how many battles you have ahead of you, the war has already been won.
