- One of the most essential things a data scientist needs to understand is the data they'll be working with. But how exactly do you teach someone about the data and what can you - Learn from that process? New data scientists should get hands-on with the data as soon as possible so you may consider setting up a sandbox environment for data discovery and learning. You never want people exploring data in a live production environment, so having a dedicated cloned environment may be pretty helpful, even if it's just with a subset of the data. Making data, code, access credentials, models, scripts, et cetera, readily available in a dedicated and safe learning environment is important.
