Grasping the public key cryptography standards (PKCS)
- [Instructor] Once industry fully embraced public key or asymmetric encryption, they began to see the potential uses across applications, but they also saw the need to have consistency. In the early 1990s, the idea of a public key infrastructure began to emerge, which would provide a secure way to distribute keys used in the encryption process. Around the same time, RSA Security along with several industry leaders crafted a set of standards called Public-Key Cryptography Standards. Now once implemented, the standards would allow vendors to seamlessly communicate with one another. The standards began with 15 standards, however as time has passed, several have either been merged with other standards or deprecated and are no longer in use.
