Reassign a license in Recruiter

Last updated: 2 months ago

As a user and license management admin, you can reassign a license from one user to another within your Recruiter contract.

Who can use this feature?

Only user and license management admins can manage licenses, permissions, and roles on your LinkedIn Recruiter contract. To better secure your account, we encourage you to add a back-up admin by assigning admin permissions to a current or new user. This allows an additional user to manage your contract if you depart the company or go on extended leave. You can assign admin permissions to users with the Hiring Manager role without requiring an additional paid license.

To perform a seat reassignment, you must have an available license. Licenses can only be reassigned to users with an Active status. Users whose status is Parked or Invited cannot have licenses reassigned to them. It is important to understand that reassigning a license transfers all licenses, permissions, and associated data (such as projects, jobs, InMails, and saved searches) from the source user to another. The original user will lose access to the transferred data, unless the seat is reassigned to them. This action should be used with caution.

Important to know

Use this feature with caution
. Once the data is transferred, the original user will lose access to that data permanently, unless the seat is reassigned back to them. If this is not your intended outcome, consider other options such as temporarily parking the seat or having admins share projects directly between users.

To reassign a license in Recruiter:

  1. Sign in to Recruiter.

  2. Move your cursor over your profile picture at the top of your Recruiter homepage and select Go to LinkedIn Admin Center from the dropdown.

  3. On the Users tab, find the person whose work you want to reassign.

Note: You can filter by License type , License status , and Project status . You can also search by name, email, title, or project using the search box above the user list.

  4. Click the More icon to the right of the user whose work you want to reassign.
  5. Click Reassign.

  6. Enter the user’s name in the textbox provided, then select the user from the dropdown list. This user will receive the work of the user you're removing.

  7. Click Continue.

  8. Click View all to preview the role and data changes before and after the seat reassignment.

  9. Click Confirm to complete the seat reassignment.

Once a license is reassigned, the recipient can use the reassigned licenses immediately, though it may take up to five hours for the transfer of work to be completed. During this transition, it may appear as if both the original and new user have access to the resources.

If you get the error, “There was an error in reassigning the license of <Name>. Please try again later”, check the Activity log tag and verify if there are any pending reassignments for user accounts. If necessary, you can cancel a pending action by clicking Cancel next to the action on the user profile and then attempt the reassignment again.

Important to know

There is a limit of 10,000 task reminders transferred per seat. Active reminders will be transferred first. Inactive reminders transfers will be prioritized by due date.

Keep in mind that the number of times a license can be reassigned is limited
. This limit varies per contract. For example, an organization with 15 seats is allowed to reassign 15 licenses every 30 days. Limits reset every 30 days from the organization’s contract start date and any unused reassign actions don’t carry over to the next month.
