An identity verification on your profile means that you had a valid, verified government-issued ID. To get an identity verification using DigiLocker the following criteria must be satisfied:
- Age limit: You must be 18 years old.
- Location: The location on your profile must be India. You must also be currently logged in with an IP address in India.
- Devices: You can access this feature through the LinkedIn mobile app (iOS and Android). The verification process is not available on web browsers. If you are using a web browser, you will be prompted with a QR code that you can scan using your mobile device.
Data sharing between DigiLocker and LinkedIn
What are your DigiLocker credentials?
After starting your identity verification process from LinkedIn and logging into your DigiLocker account, you’ll be prompted to share the following data with LinkedIn—
- Name
- Date of birth
- The photo DigiLocker has on file in connection with your connected Aadhaar
- Unique identifier
- Confirmation that your DigiLocker account is linked to an Aadhaar
Note that DigiLocker will also ask for your consent to share your gender and phone number with LinkedIn. LinkedIn does not process, use or store this information, and it is deleted immediately.
How does LinkedIn use my data?
After you consent to share the DigiLocker data with LinkedIn, your data is used in 2 ways:
- Photo: LinkedIn will now prompt you to take a live selfie. With your consent, LinkedIn will process the selfie, the photo received from DigiLocker and biometric data to ensure they match.
- Name: LinkedIn uses the name received from DigiLocker to match the name on your LinkedIn profile. If you have a LinkedIn profile in another language, the name received from DigiLocker must match all secondary profiles.
- Date of birth: LinkedIn only uses this information to check that you are 18 or older.
These steps must be successful for you to get a verification on your LinkedIn profile. LinkedIn may display the country that issued your ID (i.e., India) on your profile.
Once the verification is successful:
- LinkedIn will only store your name and unique identifier for security purposes. LinkedIn manages your data according to our Privacy Policy.
- LinkedIn does not store your photo, date of birth, gender, phone number and other biometric information. This data is deleted promptly after the verification.
If you are unable to successfully complete the verification process using your DigiLocker credentials, for troubleshooting purposes we may also temporarily retain data about why you were unable to do so.
How can I manage my verifications?
Adding a verification is optional. You are not required to add one to your profile.
- Verifications are visible to all logged in members, but the actual information from the DigiLocker credentials will not be visible.
You can remove your verifications anytime by going to Settings. For more information about how you can exercise your data privacy rights and how to contact us, you can visit our Privacy Policy.
