Happy National Rural Health Day! UAB Medicine is proud to have founded and operate the Alabama Rural Health Collaborative (ARHC), the state’s first rural hospital resource center. Established through the Alabama legislature, ARHC provides essential support to rural hospitals across the state, offering assistance in areas like compliance, supply chain, quality, provider recruitment, and strategic planning. Last year alone, more than 1.78 million patients were cared for by Alabama’s rural hospitals, showing their critical role in not only delivering health care but also supporting local economies and communities. However, thanks to advancements in health care, an increasing number of individuals with this condition are now able to lead healthy adult lives. Genetic counselors guide and support patients seeking evaluation for inherited diseases and conditions.
