At our recent elementary UIL competition, we witnessed a beautiful example of parental support that warmed all our hearts. UIL academic events are a bit unique. Unlike athletic events or even some fine arts events, cheering sections are non-existent since they aren’t allowed in the competition areas. But one dad thought outside of the box! This dedicated dad held a handmade “Good Luck” sign, eager to encourage his daughter, Taniya Lazare, as she stepped off the bus to compete. The sign read, “Go Taniya! You got this, daughter! Daddy loves you!” But as excited as he was, Simms 3rd grader Taniya missed seeing him in the bustling crowd. Noticing his disappointment, two members of our administrative team, Misty Byrd and Dr. Terri Burchfield, quickly set out to help. They found Taniya and brought her back, ensuring she saw her dad’s heartfelt gesture. Her face lit up with joy, and her dad’s pride was written all over his. Later, as she finished her competition, this incredible dad surprised her again with a lighted sign to celebrate her hard work. Our hearts burst with joy seeing how this dad went above and beyond to show his daughter that her achievements matter. We’re grateful to have parents like him who bring such genuine support to our school community. Moments like these remind us how big a difference a parent’s encouragement can make.
