Our ‘Season of Light’ fall giving campaign kicked off with this year’s initiative: Light Up Navajo! 💡 We hosted two learning sessions, one in our Jacksonville office and one in our Bellevue office, where Arline Newton, ALM, TEA Account Director, gave a moving presentation on the #LightUpNavajo project. This project began as an American Public Power Association (APPA) initiative back in 2019 and has grown to be a grass roots movement to help Navajo Tribal Utility Authority - NTUA build the infrastructure needed to help light up the Navajo Nation. Some key takeaways were: 💡 There are 13,000 families in the Navajo Nation (located in the bordering states of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah) without access to basic power and water. 💡 Electrifying just one household is expensive, requiring on average: one transformer, 0.6 miles of wire, nine poles, 16 insulators, and two arrestors = approximately $5,500. 💡 Each Spring, utility companies from across the US donate their time for 13 weeks to help build the infrastructure needed to power the Navajo grid. 💡 At the current rate, all Navajo homes will have electricity within 30 years. But we can all help speed up the process! We set a goal to raise $5,500, enough to light up one home in Navajo, and we far surpassed that goal in the first 24 hours. In our first kick-off meeting on the East Coast, TEA’s Senior Team announced that they would match the day-one donations received from both offices. TEA employees showed incredible support, raising $11,000 (including the match) in just the first day – enough to power two homes! Then, donations continued to flow in, and our current fundraising total is over $17,000, which is more than enough to light up three homes in Navajo. We can’t thank our generous employees enough for helping to make a huge impact in the lives of those living without power in the Navajo Nation. Siobhan O'Connor, TEA’s Manager of East Power Trading, had the opportunity to attend the 2024 Florida's Women in Energy Leadership Forum in Tampa, FL, this week where she participated in a Dale Carnegie Workshop titled: How to Connect with Confidence. In the live workshop, Dakota Frazier, Certified Trainer with Dale Carnegie, interviewed Siobhan and Amy Kemp on their own experiences growing their careers in a male-dominated industry. Siobhan shared her professional journey with building confidence and creating meaningful connections in the workplace and beyond. Siobhan shared her thoughts: “I was deeply grateful for the chance to share the stage with Dakota Frazier and Amy Kemp. Reflecting on my professional journey and hoping to inspire those entering the energy field was immensely rewarding. I truly hope my experiences can assist others as they navigate their own paths.” From start to finish, the event was inspiring and engaging, with an impressive lineup of presenters and panelists showcasing some of the most influential names in the Florida energy sector. "The theme was ‘The Power of Collaboration’ which reminded me of how TEA got its start. Having so many people come together with a common interest in moving the industry forward for the future of Florida while maintaining resiliency and reliability was motivating,” added Siobhan. TEA is proud to be a sponsor of this year’s #FWELF2024 and we’d like to extend a special thank you to Sarah Sims and Lila Jaber for the invitation to participate in this energizing event! #thepowerofcollaboration #womeninenergy

We're excited to contribute to the expansion of the University of North Florida - Coggin College of Business. Together, we're shaping a brighter future for students in Northeast Florida and beyond.
Thank you to our community partners and Coggin family for the support of our historical groundbreaking today. The expansion will create new classrooms, labs, student areas and faculty offices to enhance our Coggin experience.
