"Redefining Success: How SSCI Thrives through Bold Moves and Extraordinary Leadership" Over the years SSCI has become a powerful regional player. Hodges says the company's steady growth is due to a combination of things. "Certainly, a major part is due to a core group of personnel who are smart, committed to the team, and share my values," she says. Hodges also counts quality work and innovation as success factors. Hodges, along with her engineer son, Donald, manages the growth of SSCI carefully to ensure that the firm grows slowly and steadily. "We have had a few years of very high billings, but the pivotal management aspect is being sure we can manage the leaner years," she says. The Hodges say "Our strategic planning meeting is: **Be Bold **Be Extraordinary **No Limits

With the summer fast approaching, the experts are warning us of higher-than-normal temperatures this year. This forecast comes at what is expected to be the tail-end of the latest El Niño, a natural climate phenomenon that happens every few years when the Pacific Ocean develops above-normal sea surface temperatures and weakening trade winds. For those who work outdoors, rising temperatures can be deadly. Here at SSCI, we ensure that all site-specific Health and Safety Plans include heat stress monitoring and work practices. We provide industrial hygiene services, including heat exposure monitoring, and can assist our clients in developing a safe and healthy work environment. Our team of technicians, engineers, and scientists are in the field daily, and we know the difficulties of working in extreme heat. Developing and maintaining a heat-stress training program at your workplace may be the difference between life and death.

HOT off the press: Under the rules found in Title 30 Texas Administrative Code Chapter 334, owners of regulated petroleum storage tanks must notify the TCEQ of any construction activity at underground and aboveground petroleum storage tank sites. Submit the new 30-day NOC (Notice of Construction) form 30 days before the work begins. ENGINEERED FUELING SYSTEMS: SSCI provides detailed planning, design, engineering, installation, and project management services to our Clients responsible for the storage and delivery of Bulk Fuel Systems in their operations. In addition to keeping updated on the State and Federal regulations for fuel systems, SSCI is a licensed trainer for TCEQ and other states Fuel Contractor Licensing programs.

SSCI is a leader in resolving issues during road construction. Our extensive experience working with owners, contractors, and transportation agencies has made us experts in property ownership and acquisition, a process that can be complex and time-consuming. We understand the importance of careful research and site surveys to locate environmental obstacles such as abandoned underground storage tanks, pipelines, and wells. Our team of experts uses the latest technology, such as ground-penetrating radar and televising, to ensure that there are no surprises during construction. We recommend pre-construction research to avoid delays and unnecessary costs. We are committed to providing the best service in the industry, and our track record speaks for itself.

SSCI incorporates an Axillary AST and redesign of generator belly-tanks to increase emergency power run-time from 21 hours to 165 hours – 6.9 days. Key Achievements: The first step: Increase backup fuel capacity from 21 to 37 hours at 50% load by doubling the existing generator belly-tank capacity. The second step: Implemented a strategic and flexible fuel storage design by incorporating a new 5,000-gallon AST, automatic refill systems, and emergency backup power connections extending generator run-time to an impressive 165 hours (6.9 days) at 50% load. SPCCs: One of EPA's top 5 areas of citation! EPA has required Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans for over 40 years, but the lack of a proper SPCC remains one of the top environmental citations. The plan must be written kept on-site at all times, signed by a licensed professional engineer (quantity based), and re-evaluated every 5 years!

Thought for the New Year: “Where the mind goes, the body will follow” – Arnold Schwarzenegger SSCI thanks you for your continued business and wishes you a fabulous new year! As in the past, SSCI has made donations to the following organizations to show our appreciation: Armand Bayou Nature Center (ABNC), Texas Extension Service’s 4-H programs, League City Historical Society (LCHS), and Interfaith Caring Ministries (ICM). ABNC was founded based on the conviction that an educated, involved community is vital to the preservation of our natural environment. ABNC has two missions: provide environmental education to the public and act as the steward of the more than 2,500 undeveloped acres under its care. ABNC receives no regular government funding and relies on foundation support, contributions, special project funding and program attendee fees. We hope you will visit www.abnc.org. 4-H programs throughout the US provide opportunities for children and young adults living both in our cities and rural areas to learn life skills, take leadership positions, practice public speaking and participate in citizenship projects; studies indicate these programs “create” some of our strongest community leaders and entrepreneurial success stories (https://lnkd.in/gCeXFqq). LCHS was formed in 1989 to preserve, protect, and beautify the old historic area of League City and to own and operate the internationally recognized West Bay Common One-Room Schoolhouse Children’s Museum and the Barn Museum. Both museums preserve, display, and interpret history and artifacts. The 501C (3) non-profit organization aims to educate the community and foster a positive community spirit for rebuilding, restoring, and preserving the historical areas of League City and communities in general. The society is funded through memberships, fundraising events, program attendee fees, grants, and donations (www.leaguecityhistory.org). ICM is a community assistance coalition supported by local churches, organizations, businesses, and individuals. The mission is to not only help people in crisis but also facilitate their path to self-sufficiency. ICM (https://icmtx.org) helps more than 8,000 clients each year. Providing environmental and engineering services to you in 2023 has been a great pleasure, and we look forward to working with you to make 2024 a Safe and Prosperous Year! SSCI's team applies the use of remote sensing in environmental investigations including linear corridor projects, Phase I ESAs, property condition assessments, and real estate assessments. The usage of drones by civilians has increased significantly over the past few years. As of 2023, there are 855,860 FAA-registered drones in the United States. The global drone market is worth $43 billion as of 2022 and is expected to reach $43.35 billion by 2025. Drones have been used in military applications for years, but drones have moved to commercial industries and hobbyists in recent years. As aerial drones are developing, they are becoming an effective tool for environmental monitoring and enforcement because of their ability to reach areas that would be otherwise inaccessible or cost-prohibitive. https://conta.cc/410g3lE
