Today, the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Mekong River Commission Secretariat, and NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration proudly celebrated years of fruitful cooperation aimed at co-developing tools and technologies that empower 152 million people in the Lower Mekong to better cope with disasters such as floods and droughts. The event, titled “Celebrating USAID-NASA-ADPC-MRC Collaboration and Achievements on Satellite Applications for Flood and Drought Management,” featured a technical workshop attended by around 50 representatives from the MRC and partnering regional and international organizations. Among the notable achievements of this collaboration are the Rainstorm Tracker and the Mekong X-ray tools. ADPC has partnered with the MRC to launch the new operational Flash Flood Guidance bulletin, integrating data from both tools for enhanced disaster response. Rainstorm Tracker: This operational storm analyzer monitors and alerts authorities about the severity of rainstorm events across the Lower Mekong Basin in near-real-time. It significantly improves flash flood early warning capabilities and reduces risks from such events. In her opening remarks, Linda McElroy, USAID/RDMA Deputy Mission Director, emphasized the U.S. Government and USAID’s steadfast commitment to Southeast Asia and expressed gratitude to the MRC and ADPC for their invaluable partnership. Together, we are making significant strides toward a more resilient future!
