Safeguarding leaders agree that Scouting America’s focus on advocacy and awareness of youth protection is paramount for a truly safe organization. “We need more organizations like Scouting America to step up, break the silence, and stand with victims and survivors—because to share is not just about transparency, it’s about justice and prevention.” – Nina Vaaranen-Valkonen, Cofounder at Protect Children https://lnkd.in/gZN6vBdb

About us
Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America) is one of the largest Scouting organizations in the United States of America and one of the largest youth organizations in the United States, with more than 2.4 million youth participants and nearly one million adult volunteers. The organization was founded in 1910, and since then, more than 110 million Americans have been participants in programs at some time. Scouting America is part of the international Scout Movement and became a founding member organization of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1922. Scouting America's goal is to train youth in responsible citizenship, character development, and self-reliance through participation in a wide range of outdoor activities, educational programs, and, at older age levels, career-oriented programs in partnership with community organizations. For younger members, the Scout Method is part of the program to instill typical Scouting values such as trustworthiness, good citizenship, and outdoors skills, through a variety of activities such as camping, aquatics, and hiking. In order to further these outdoor activities, Scouting America has four high-adventure bases: Northern Tier (Minnesota, Manitoba, and Ontario), Philmont Scout Ranch (New Mexico), Sea Base (Florida), and Summit Bechtel Reserve (West Virginia). The traditional Scouting divisions are Cub Scouting for children in grades K-5, Scouts BSA for youth ages 11 to 17 and Venturing and Sea Scouting for young men and women ages 14 (or 13 and having completed the 8th grade) to 20.

Serving alongside community partners, Boy Scouts of America - Chattanooga (Cherokee Area Council) #Scouts aided in collecting and loading more than 120,000 lbs. of emergency items through Operation Good Neighbor. #Scouting groups throughout the area did a Good Turn, collecting supplies and loading them, as well. Big thanks to everyone who lent a hand and joined together for #hurricanerelief.

I had so much fun with Scouting America thinking about all the ways scouting prepares kids for the future. Behind the scenes of this shoot, people kept coming up to tell us how much scouting has meant to them. As the spouse of an Eagle Scout, I'm right there with them. #Sponsored

When tragedy strikes, #Scouts rally together to help those in need. Recognizing the impact of the recent hurricanes, Troop 173 of Harrisburg, North Carolina, made the trek to Black Mountain, North Carolina, this past weekend. The group (1) helped prepare 3,500 meals and (2) sorted and palletized supplies being shipped to those impacted. Though destruction is prevalent, Scouts (and their families) are doing their part to be Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, and Kind. “The Scouts genuinely were happy to serve those who were suffering from the damage to western NC. Myself – all I did was communicate with the camp owner…the boys put the muscle and physical effort in. Scouting is about serving our God, nation, and community, and it was a pleasure to see the next generation embrace this purpose,” says Assistant Scoutmaster David Breslin. Join us as we thank these Scouts and volunteers for springing to action – your hard work provides a glimmer of hope in a time that seems so dark for so many. If you’d like to donate directly to Scouting America councils and employees affected by the recent hurricane, you can do so through the Scouting Emergency Assistance Fund. https://ow.ly/uXaR50TO3A0

Less than two weeks before Hurricane Milton hit, Hurricane Helene struck Florida, inflicting destruction as it moved across southeastern states. Amidst the mess, Greater Tampa Bay Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, employees offered to help. Opening their hearts and the doors of Sand Hill Scout Reservation, employees provided a base for out-of-state line crew workers to meet, rest, and chow down. Whether you’re a Den Leader in Cub Scouts, a member of Venturing, BSA, a tenured #EagleScout, or simply a fan of #Scouting and what we do, you can make a difference. When you donate to the Scouting Emergency Relief Assistance Fund, you’re helping impacted Scouting America staff members and councils rebuild their communities and care for their families. https://ow.ly/Negb50TO1W3 For more information and details, dig into our recent Aaron on Scouting blog post. https://ow.ly/KJwR50TO1W4 P.S. – If you or your #Scout unit (whether that’s a den, pack, troop, crew, or patrol) has lent a hand for hurricane relief, we want to hear about it. Simply email onscouting@scouting.org.

We're proud to announce a partnership with professional football player David Montgomery. Starting his Scouting adventure in Cincinnati, Ohio, as a member of Scout Troop 772, David learned how to balance his passion for football with his commitment to Scouting, and the important life and leadership skills it awarded him. In fact, Montgomery’s high school Eagle Scout project combined both passions. Leveraging the high attendance and popularity of his high school football games, Montgomery led toiletry drives to support Cincinnati’s unhoused community. “Scouting took me outdoors and helped me discover a lifelong love for camping and fishing,” says star running back, David Montgomery. “It also taught me valuable lessons like developing a strategy and executing a plan, as well as how to be accountable for others than myself,” he continues. “These skills helped me both in Scouting, and also taught me how to be a better athlete on the field.” Today, David runs impressive plays on the football field and simultaneously raises awareness of the positive impact of Scouting. “David’s journey from a local Scout Troop to the NFL serves as a powerful reminder of the impact our program can have on youth, inspiring them to discover their full potential,” says Roger Krone, Chief Scout Executive, President and CEO of Scouting America. Join us as we celebrate David’s role as our Scouting America Recruitment Ambassador. We are so honored to partner with him and look forward to the future ahead – it’s a win for all involved!
