In today’s announcement from The Leapfrog Group, five ScionHealth community hospitals earned the A grade for patient safety, the highest Leapfrog grade possible and one attained by less than 30% of hospitals nationwide. This represents the most ScionHealth community hospitals to earn A’s in a Leapfrog rating cycle since the company’s inception in 2021. This is a great achievement by our hospitals and their teams, and evidence that our national quality strategy is making a positive impact on patient safety and care. Congratulations to Christine "Chris" Kelsey, RN for being recognized as a 2024 Monarch Caring and Community Award recipient! Christine wears multiple hats at Watertown Regional Medical Center, caring for patients as a medsurg nurse, leading her team as a house supervisor, and mentoring new nurses as a preceptor. No matter the role, Christine always brings a skill and passion for her work that lifts others and makes her hospital a better place to receive care and a better place to work. Thank you, Christine, for being an exemplary caregiver and teammate.

Today marks Indigenous Peoples’ Day – a day to honor the Indigenous peoples who have lived in this country for millennia – long before the establishment of the United States or the colonization of the Americas – and to celebrate their contributions and culture. We are proud to recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day as an occasion to honor and thank all those on our team who identify as Indigenous people or Native Americans and to celebrate the important role our health system plays in supporting Indigenous and Native American patients. We are grateful for all those patients who entrust us with their care.

We culminated our annual Caregiver Summit in Louisville with the presentation of the ScionHealth Monarch Caring and Community Award, the highest honor we bestow upon our caregivers. Congratulations to our two 2024 recipients, Chante Edwards, a nursing assistant at Kindred Hospital Northland (Kansas City, Missouri) and Christine Kelsey, a medsurg nurse at Watertown (Wisconsin) Regional Medical Center. Chante and Christine joined award nominees from our other 90 community and specialty hospitals who were invited to the informational event and celebration held October 2 and 3. We recently recognized two of our top-performing hospitals with the presentation of our Platinum Award, the highest honor bestowed as part of ScionHealth’s National Quality Strategy. Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville, South Carolina received its award on July 31 and we presented the honor to Kindred Hospital Clear Lake in Webster, Texas on August 8. In the weeks ahead, we will recognize our third and final Platinum Award recipient in the inaugural year of the program, Palestine (Texas) Regional Medical Center. Congratulations to the teams at these hospitals and our team members across all 92 of our community and specialty hospitals who work diligently to improve quality and safety while delivering exceptional patient outcomes and experiences. Congratulations to our own Desiré Hoyt, who was recognized this week by Becker’s Healthcare in its 2024 listing of hospital and health system Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion officers to know. Desiré, Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer at ScionHealth since 2022, was among 111 DEI officers nationwide to be included in the listing meant to showcase those who are “spearheading initiatives that cultivate safe, forward-thinking healthcare environments where all individuals feel embraced, appreciated and secure.” Desiré leads ScionHealth DEI efforts that include the HOPE scholarship program, community grants initiative, and Employee Resource Groups.
