Savage Sisters Recovery, Inc was thrilled to present the Humanitarian Award to Dr Jamal Shaban at the Worth Saving Gala! Over the past few years, Dr. Shaban has become a consistent volunteer, wound care supply donor & trainer at our facility. The connection that came from a simple, human interaction has been incredible. He wanted to find his sister, we were able to help. Following that introduction, we began working together to serve the community & provide compassionate care while continuously updating wound care trainings with his expertise and advice. Thank you so much for your service & dedication to this public health crisis!! In light of Overdose Awareness Month and our youth heading back to school, it is important that youth in our community know about prevention and safety measures when it comes to opioid/substance use. These are direct from responses from our kids, so what are we going to do about it? Today, I will host an Overdose Prevention workshop at 4pm. As a group, we will go over how to properly use Naloxone/Narcan and fentanyl test strips. We will also discuss the background of laced and contaminated drugs, local data, the rise of safe injection sites, and much more. A lot of my education around opioids and substances have come from Savage Sisters Recovery, Inc. It’s crucial to invest more in true, boots on the ground harm reduction work. 💜

Yesterday I had the honor of representing Savage Sisters Recovery, Inc and delivering this speech in Harrisburg. This is why we continue to work so hard. People are still dying every day and a change needs to take place.

Drug checking is so important with this toxic drug supply. Until we have safe supply, these programs are crucial. Savage Sisters Recovery, Inc has been able to connect with amazing leaders doing this work. But programs doing this work across the country need support.
