Pacific Fusion

I couldn’t share this earlier because we were in stealth… Earlier this month at American Physical Society Division of Plasma Physics meeting, Pacific Fusion co-organized the first-ever mini conference on Pulsed Magnetic Fusion Energy. I want to recognize Alex Zylstra for leading the technical organizing committee for the event, and Fernando Garcia Rubio, Leland Ellison, Nathan Meezan, Samuel Langendorf, Anthony Link for giving great talks and posters! PF also hosted a post-conference happy hour with 160 attendees. Both the mini conference and happy hour were well-attended and very successful — there were lots of great conversations and, most importantly, a palpable buzz of excitement about the future! We certainly look forward to more opportunities to bring the community together and advance a path forward for fusion energy!

At Pacific Fusion, we are pursuing a pulsed magnetic path to inertial fusion. Earlier this year, our team collaborated with several other experts from the broader fusion community to co-author a paper to explain why we believe pulsed magnetic fusion is the most attractive path toward commercialization of fusion energy. One of my favorite companies that Trousdale Ventures funded comes out of stealth today! World, meet Pacific Fusion! When I visited Pacific Fusion for the first time, I’ll admit I was skeptical. Wasn’t nuclear fusion always supposed to be a decade away? The more I dug into the team’s impressive backgrounds, the more I read and re-read the science, the more conviction I gained. After hearing me pitch the company, Phillip Sarofim understood immediately that we had a special opportunity on our hands. I’m proud of the deeply technical investment firm we’re building at Trousdale Ventures! We started Pacific Fusion last summer with a clear mission — to power the world with abundant, affordable, clean energy. We’ve been working quietly, and today, we are excited to share more with you. We are currently designing and building a high-gain pulsed magnetic fusion driver to achieve net facility gain (more fusion energy output than all stored energy input). In parallel, we have started engineering the components and systems needed for affordable commercial fusion systems. Our plans are ambitious. Thanks to our extraordinary team of builders, decades of fusion research and progress, and support from an incredible group of investors, we are confident we can achieve them.
