In honor of National Stormwater Day tomorrow, Autumn Mitchell, EGLE Environmental Quality Analyst, is sharing valuable tips to manage stormwater and protect our water resources. Stormwater runoff—rain, snowmelt, or surface runoff—can carry pollutants like trash, chemicals, and pet waste directly into our waterways, impacting aquatic life and human health. Since stormwater is not typically treated, it’s crucial to minimize pollution at its source. “We can all take actions to help reduce pollutants carried by stormwater runoff into our surface waters,” said Mitchell. #MIEnvironment #NationalStormwaterDay

This Friday is America Recycles Day, and Michiganders have plenty to celebrate. The University of Michigan is on track to break the Recycling Bowl record for the largest amount of recyclables collected at a college football game, expected to exceed 20 tons of material from tailgaters alone! As Governor Gretchen Whitmer noted in an America Recycles Day proclamation, Michigan’s recycling rate is at an all-time high for the third consecutive year, putting Michigan on track to achieve the state’s 30% recycling goal by 2029. This is a huge improvement from just 14.25% before 2019. “Celebrating America Recycles Day in Michigan can help continue increasing recycling in the state and highlight the fact that all Michigan residents can help strengthen the economy while contributing to a cleaner, healthier environment,” the Governor said. #AmericaRecyclesDay #MIEnvironment #MIRecycles #RecyclesDay

EGLE Veterans recently participated in relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Helene in Asheville, North Carolina. Working alongside fellow veterans from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority and the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO), EGLE veterans supported American Legion Post #141 in providing critical aid. Together, they helped collect, transport, and distribute over $1 million in supplies, including 40 semi-trailers of donations and 13 trailers of hay and livestock feed. As we approach Veterans Day, EGLE Director Phil Roos emphasized the importance of honoring veterans’ sacrifices, stating, “Here at EGLE, we’re fortunate to work alongside many veterans who continue to serve our state through their dedication to environmental stewardship, public health, and the well-being of Michigan residents. Their commitment, both in the armed forces and at EGLE, is a testament to the values we strive to uphold every day.” #MiEnvironment #VeteransDay
