We had a wonderful time sponsoring the National Philanthropy Day luncheon hosted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), Kansas Heartland Chapter. On this special day, instituted by President Reagan in 1986, we recognize the outstanding contributions of those who make a difference in our community through their hard work and generosity. It was heartwarming to see so many partners from across Kansas come together to celebrate the spirit of giving. Congratulations to the 2024 award recipients who focus their efforts on contributing to a better future through philanthropy! #NationalPhilanthropyDay

On #VeteransDay, we reflect on the longstanding link between the medical field and the military. From medical teams delivering care in active war zones to providing care when military members return home, we’re thankful for their service.

Congratulations to our assistant director of admissions Martina Viale, on being recognized in the Wichita Business Journal as a Young Professional at Major Employers! In her role, she supports our oncoming students through the lengthy admissions process. Her commitment and spirit encourages all students and staff and we’re incredibly lucky to have her as part of our team. Physician shortages often hit rural communities the hardest. Exacerbated by an aging population, physician retirements, and burnout, the Association of American Medical Colleges projects a shortage of up to 86,000 doctors by 2036. We developed the Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine as our founding program to help address this great need. As part of our strategic MedEd Hub Project made possible by Patterson Family Foundation, City of Garden City, Kansas, Riverside Health Foundation and more, student doctors complete clinical rotations in underserved and rural areas — like third year student Chase Hearn who completed rotations at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City — because we know doctors are more likely to serve in communities they are connected. But this is just part of the plan. From developing Kansas youth to consider careers in medicine to legislative advocacy and residency development, KHSU is steadfast to address the health care needs of Kansas and beyond. It was an incredible turnout for our first-ever Frontiers in Medical AI Summit. If we are to understand how artificial intelligence will impact the future of medical care, we need to be at the forefront of the conversation. Thank you to our speakers, Dr. Ravi Pendse and Dr. Calvin Chao, who helped bring the topic into focus with their perspectives on the current AI landscape and the ways we already harness AI in the classroom and in treatment, such as in cancer diagnosis. AI algorithms and predictive language models can speed up diagnosis and administrative work, allowing physicians to maximize their time with patients, and AI chatbots can help in communicating a diagnosis or recalling medical history. We see a future where physicians, researchers, and patients alike use AI tools to gain insight and improve the quality and efficiency of care.

We love being in the heart of downtown. Our student and staff volunteers had a blast during Open Streets ICT! The courtyard was full of children chalking up the sidewalks surrounding our booths. Student clubs organized activities to engage community members, offering card-making activities for children in hospitals, CPR demonstrations, and blood pressure checks.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our inaugural Frontiers in Medical AI Summit yesterday. We’re proud to facilitate thought provoking dialogue about the future of #AI and how it is transforming both #medical #education and the practice of medicine. Together, with leading minds in medical and healthcare fields, we examined a range of important topics from the equitable and #ethical use of AI in higher education, to AI's impact on research, clinical work, and precision medicine, as well as how AI is helping to power personalized learning opportunities. We are committed to exploring ever-evolving technologies and their positive impact on the future of healthcare.
